I'll be traveling to Las Vegas for a work-related trip in May. Since the hotel would be paid for and our evenings would be free, my husband will also be flying out with me to make this a "mini-vacation." I know that we have to cover his airfare and I only get reimbursed up to $250 for my own airfare, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on relatively inexpensive airfare from New York to Las Vegas. We'd be flying out on 5/11 and back on 5/16. Because we had already planned and paid for a family vacation departing on 5/17, we can't take an overnight flight on the 16th. Any help/info/etc. would be greatly appreciated.

If you would have checked sidestep.com you seem right away Jetblue for $263 and Delta for $267 JFK to LAS.

Well, I've done it. Since we have the flexibility to leave from one airport and return to another, I booked one-way tickets with two different airlines. We're flying out on Jet Blue from JFK and returning on Frontier to LGA. After searching through most of the airlines' one-way rates, I was able to find this combination for about $275, including taxes and fees. And one of the best parts is that this fare didn't require me to take the red-eye that most of the other airlines were offering as their lowest fare.

So, the moral of the story here would be that if you can't find what you want at a price you're willing to pay on one airline, try one-way tickets on two different airlines. It's also worthwhile to consider departing from and returing to different airports, if necessary.

Actually, I have done a lot of planning for this trip. I just haven't had time to write down every single fare that I found. I know Continental, Virgin America, United and US Airways are all out of my price range, no matter whether I depart from SWF, LGA, JFK or HPN. Even the "low cost" airlines like AirTran, Jet Blue, Spirit and Frontier are too high. The lowest I've found is Delta, at about $305 per person, and I will likely go with that. I was just hoping that someone else might have a useful suggestion or two to point me to something that I might have overlooked.

Try Yapta. You can "tag" flights at a certain fare and then if the price goes down, Yapta emails you. It helps to keep track of everything. I know how it is, going from one site to another with all different prices and flight times. Gets confusing.
