I want to get a one-way rental starting at Vienna airport and returning to Zürich airport: June 8, 08 - June 21, 08.

I'm looking for a 4 door. Something that can fit 4 people with some language. I can't find any deals at all.

The approximate standard prices for intermediate go for about $1200-1300.

Does anyone have experience here with this type of rental?

All help is appreciated!

The best thing I have found for your dates up to now is at www.billiger-mietwagen.de The site is in German, but is pretty much self-explanatory. A middle size (for Europe; probably compact in the U.S.) station wagen will cost about €650 (ca. $1000) including full-collision, theft etc. Billiger-Mietwagen is an excellent rental car consolidator (I've used them all over Europe, the U.S. and Canada) and you can cancel up to 24 hours before rental begins with no fee. Not to be taken for granted in Europe!!

The other alternative is to check out www.autoeurope.com You will probably need to call them because of the international drop-off.

Don't forget that gas is up to about $8.50 per gallon in most of western europe.

Man, I know that some of those german words can be pretty long, but I didn't realize you had to take their size into account when choosing a car! I'm sure you meant luggage.

Wow! Your Itinerary looks so similar to mine! I am flying to Vienna on June 9th and flying out from Geneva on the 19th. I am also in search of a deal on rental car. Autoeurope seem to have semi-reasonable rates but you need to call them to figure out what the actual cost would be. I am still debating car vs train. At least for parts of the trip. According to what I read on internet it would be cheaper not to rent right away at the airport but rather rent in Vienna when you're ready to leave the city. It may also be cheaper to rent twice - once in Austria and once in Switzerland as most car rental companies impose one-way drop-off fees of $300 (or is it EUROs?) if you drop the car off in another country. There is no additional charge for one-way rentals within the same country. You can take an overnight train from Austria to Switzerland and save the cost of hotel for that night. BTW, which game(s) are you going to?

FOLKS!
Here is what I reserved!
Well... The best deal I found was through sixt car rental. (through Expedia)
Sixt Compact Wagon: Air conditioning, manual transmission, unlimited mileage.
Pick up:
Sun Jun-8-2008 6:00 PM
Vienna

Drop off:
Sat Jun-21-2008 11:00 AM
Zurich

€215.83 per week with dropoff charge of €220.00

I thought it was a great deal!
We have no tickets for any games but I'm hopping to find some on spot.

I did calculations and renting was cheaper (including gas price) than train since we are 4 people. It also provides ultimate flexibility and easy!!! On top of that I love side trips and the only way to do that is by having a car!
