My family & I are going to vegas.
I've heard there are great buffets that are quite inexpensive - we will have a car, so driving a few minutes isn't an issue. We do have a 3 year old, so we generally eat earlier than normal people

PALMS breakfast $7.99 and lunch $9.99. Its one of the best for the price.
For cheap buffets The Orleans followed by Gold Coast are hard to beat. A little over $11 for lunch with a players card discount. The Sahara was some of the worst food I've ever eaten in my life so I would avoid it like the plague. Planet Hollywood (formerly Alladin) supposedly has one of the better buffets although it's probably not cheap. For a family the Palms is probably a good chice. Find out when breakfast ends and lunch starts, then get there a few minutes before lunch and get the cheaper price and the best of both worlds. But check out cheapovegas.com and others for cheap eats including pretzels, shrimp coctails, hot dogs, etc.
The cheap buffets tend to be really bad.. I'd stay away. if you have a car, just go to nearest chain fast food restaurant if you want to save some money on food that wont be mysterious to your stomach.

The Station casinos and the Coast Stations (including the Orleans) all have buffets under $15.
The Planet Hollywood buffet is pretty good BUT at $27, it can hardly be classified as inexpensive.
Personally, the great advantage of the buffet is that you can see the food before you get the food.
If you can get a coupon, you can eat at Terrible's buffet at a "BOGO" offer.
Their breakfast buffets sans coupon are $4.99, lunch is $5.99 and dinner is $9.99.
A piece of info I'd thought I'd share with you.
We are Vegas buffet lovers and have done pretty much all of them. The best of the best are:
1: Bellagio
2. Planet Ho
3. Paris
4. Wynn
All of the above will cost you between $25-$40pp, but if you enjoy top of the top, we think it's worth it.
That said there are many really good off strip buffets if you are happy with prime rib & shrimp. In no particular order:
Main Street Station
Gold Coast
Orleans
Freemont
All are really good and about $12 bucks.
In our opinion the worst that we wouldn't eat at free:
Circus Circus
Excalibur
Sahara
Riviera
Still many more thaty are really good and fall in between.... Hilton, Flamingo, Harrahs.... hard to go wrong!
The buffets we tried just this last week were OK, but nothing great.
The dinner buffet at the Gold Coast was one of the better rated ones, but nothing I would care to repeat.
The price was good at $14 and then a BOGO coupon, but the food was mediocre at best.
The peel and eat shrimp were great, but the entrees were no better than those at Old Country Buffet.
The temperature of the food was poor - hot foods were not hot.
What we found to be a very pleasant surprise, was the off-the-menu steak special at Ellis Island.
We got a great cup of clam chowder, a very nice steak (appeared to be a sirloin butt steak), sauteed green beans, and a choice of potato. In addition, you also got one of their microbrew beers. (The kids can get their brewed root beer.)
The price of the dinner is $6.99 which includes the beer. No coupon, you just have to know to ask about it.
The other entrees which were on the menu were very reasonable and we could see that the portions being served were huge.
The thing with All Buffets ,you get what you Pay for,and the same applies to Vegas buffets.Sorry,never tried the cheaper Buffets,based on negative feedbacks....The decent ones are all priced at $25 and above.....I would recommend the Paris Brunch and for variety Planet Hollywood's buffet.......

Based on our experience and on the reviews we read, price is not necessarily indicative of the quality of the buffet.
According to the reviews, some of the higher priced buffets were inferior to those with a smaller price tag.
Some of these low priced meals follow the old Vegas practice of using a good meal as a loss leader in an attempt to get you in to spend your money gambling in the casino.
trust me! don't be cheap on the buffet. eat at Bellagio! it'd be worth every penny!
The Main Street Station buffet is a great value, just be advised that their Sunday Champagne brunch does not offer any seafood. Otherwise every item we tried was very good.
And the Mandalay Bay champagne brunch is a little less(price wise) than some of the higher end ones, but it is just as good imo.
Golden Corral.
My vote would go to the Fremont downtown. About $7.50 for lunch, and $10 for dinner, and the room is beautiful. It's a little more for specials like steak night, champagne brunch and the like. Main Street Station is good too, but it's not nearly as attractive a room. Pick up a coupon sheet at the Fremont Street Experience office. It's on Fremont Street (surprise!), opposite the Neonopolis. It has buy one get one free for the Fremont and Main Street Station buffets, and a lot of other stuff. Better yet, get two. One for you and one for your wife. Then you can buy two and get two free! Four lunches for $15 or four dinners for $20 is hard to beat. If you have a car, the "Station" casinos (not affiliated with Main Street Station) are pretty good too. The best is probably Boulder Station, lunch about $8, dinner about $11, but no freebies that I know of.
many hotel has coupon for that in there info desk, just ask them for buffut coupon. usually they are 2 for 1 price coupon.
i have eaten at about 15 vegas buffets, and i do believe you get what you pay for. if you are looking for a good deal, and like golden corral/furrs/wyatts/sirlion stockade type of buffets, they are about the same for the ones already mentioned for about 10-12 dollars. i think the better buffet deals are at lunch during weekdays. if you have a kid try t.i. buffet formally called dishes. they have cotton candy and some other great things kids like. i like le village buffet at paris myself. i would stay away from mgm as far as the nicer casinos. but places like cirus circus, Excalibur, downtown, are gonna be cheap and have what you can get in your own city. for 5 bucks more during during the week at lunch buffets you can eat at places like spice market in planet hollywood or Bellagio. i like good deals myself, and still miss the late night buffet at boardwalk. i will admit that the prices have gone up at most buffets since the mid 90's, but so have many new casinos and other things in vegas. i am going myself in 2 weeks and cant wait to buffet.
