My entire family and friends are going to Bar Harbor, ME on June 24th thru the 29th. And I believe I am the designated trip planner.
We had booked our flight already, courtesy of Fat Wallet (thank you OP!)the $25 off coupon code for Airtran.
I need to know the most economical way to do the activities there. I know there are a lot of them but since we are really crunched for time
can someone let me know the best, yet not pocket-breaking activity.

Thanks!

HI
I ahve lived in Maine for 20 years now. LOVE LOVE LOVE BAR HARBOR!!
Must do the PArk Loop Road first in ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. THis will take you through all of the main sites of Acadia. Plan the day or atleast several hours to stop and get out and see all the sights. DO NOT MISS CADILLAC MOUNTAIN. Beautiful Try and go there on a nice day (PArk loop rd too) Maybe $5 for car full! Find Echo Like. Peaseful Nice. Downtown Bar Harbor has great stores and a few restaurants. HAven't found a favorite restaurant yet though. DO like a little shack on the way in to Bar Harbor Kind of near the LUMBER JACK SHOW to get lobster cooked and eat at there picnic tables Best price and fresh. THere is an ICE CREAM STORE you must hit downtown BEN AND BILLS any ice cream you can imagine and some you can not. Even LOBSTER ICE CREAM. GO down to the docks at the bottom of the hill in downtown and watch fishing and lobster boats come in around 2-4pm. If you are adventurous rent bikes in the am and they truck you up Cadillac mountian and you can ride down the hill at sunrise. There is enough to see without paying for much!! We have camped there many times and statyed at a few hotels. If you have time you can take "THE CAT" from Bar Harbor to Novia Scotia. Fun day trip! Now I am missing it talking about it! It will be cold. Always is!

Wow glad I did a search... I'm going to Ellsworth ME the week prior (15th-21st)... Is the trip to Novia Scotia worth it? What would you recomend doing there? taking a car or walking it when were there?
I'll be there with the kids (2 and 5) and 4 other adults.

Thanks for all the details already... glad I'm not the only one looking for ideas...

Guess what, the hotel I got is just right in front of the CAT ferry. We are
staying in Days Inn, I got a better deal calling them rather that searching online though.
It seems like that is how I get "better" hotel deals, I call the hotel directly.
Anyways, let me know jme349 if you end up going to NS. If it is really worth going there since
we might plan another vacation to really go to Nova Scotia (my husband is dying to go there!).
Its just sad that the ferry schedule is in conflict with ours...

HI
Going to Nova Scotia was fun. On the CAT you can just do a day trip No need for a car. I took a cruise line once from Portland up there for 2 days and that was nice and needed car then but for 1 day or 1 night don;t think you need it. But Bar Harbor and ACADIA has plenty to do for atleast 2-3 days if not more depending on how adventerous you are. Acadia has hundreds of miles of trails for hiking or biking. My kids were about 7 and 9 the first time we went They loved the exploring. Days in is fine! Everything else up there gets overpriced I think for what you get.

My kids had fun on the cat they showed disney movies ion the way over THere is some slot machines food etc. Since you are there for a full week it is fun for a day trip.HAVE FUN

I am so jealous of you going to Maine! I love Maine. Last summer I won a professional artist grant that I used to go to Monhegan Island, Maine to attend a workshop for 7 days. It was blissful. I recommend you try to work in a trip to Monhegan Island. It is a very special place. There are only a couple of vehicles on the island, there are miles and miles of beautiful hiking trails, including one that leads you to "Cathedral Woods" where you can see dozens of fairy houses that have been created along the path. There are some really good restaurants, some shops, some wonderful and interesting locals. There are a few places to stay on the island like the Island Inn. You can also rent a cottage. Monhegan is where a lot of famous artists have lived and painted. The Weyeths have houses on the island. There are a few ferries that travel to the island. I took a ferry that leaves from Port Clyde but there are other ports. Monhegan is a magical place.
