We have a stop over in Seattle on our way to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We have a short time on the way there, we get in at 4pm and depart at 2pm the next day. So probably not going to do a whole lot on that day. On the way back we get in at 6am and don't depart till 3 the next day so we basically have a whole day. I have never been to the city so not sure what there is to do besides the space needle. Also should I stay in downtown Seattle or near the airport? Is a rental car needed? Any suggestions recommendations would be appreciated.

This doesn't qualify as a travel deal, just asking for input from people who may be familiar w/ the area. I have gone through various travel sites and forums like trip advisor and have found a few suggestions but looking for more input. I am not asking anyone to find a specific hotel, prices and so on or tours and their prices just general inputs.

wow..i didn't know this board was so strict. Geez, Genius069 just wanted some advice on what to do in Seattle. [Mod Note: Inappropriate comment removed].

Genius069, i lived in Seattle for about 5 years. If you have time and want to see what is out in Seattle, I would recommend staying in Downtown. You don't want to stay near the airport because the airport is pretty far from downtown (20 min drive approx, without the traffic)

If you chose to stay in downtown, you wouldn't need to rent a car because there are a lot of buses that run through the city.

Places to see:

-Space needle (even though you don't want to go there)
-Pike Place MKT
-Alki Beach (You might need a car for this)
-Seattle Aqui.
-Good/Cheap Restuarants near the Unversity of Washingto (On the "Ave.")
-Lots of good bars/lounges in Belltown (right on 2nd street)
-Dick's burgers (Old school burger joint)

I dont know what else you would like to do. The things i usually do in Seattle, you can do in any other city.

I hope this helps!

I likewise recommend staying downtown; The bus line is free within downtown and the border of Chinatown (Int'l District).

You'll be able to walk to shopping sites, Pike's Place, etc; I second Pike's Place and the Seattle Aquarium.

The zoo is great, but since you've only got <1 day, I'd hang around downtown.

Take in a meal in Chinatown and maybe dinner at Todai (it's all you can eat Dungeness crab - you'll pay about as much just for one at any other place).

I don't think the space needle's all that exciting.

Take the gray line from the airport - inexpensive and will deposit you straight to your hotel (likely in the downtown area).

Use Priceline to get a deal w/ advance rebidding (google those terms if you're unfamiliar) to get a downtown hotel.

Thanks Stunna and Vanishing. I will check into the places that you suggested. I think I am gonna opt for public transportation and go with a nice hotel in downtown. I will update on what we end up doing. Thanks again for your input.

A ferry ride is always fun. Do google "Bumbershoot" - the Seattle Center will be really crowded so only go there if you are interested.
