Hi. Thanks for even looking at this. People are busy these days so I thank you in advance for your time.

Here's the story. I'm going to Maui with my wonderful girlfriend in August. We've reserved a Midsize from Alamo for something like $130 for 8 days...pretty sweet.

We were really hoping to get something with an open top; preferably a convertible but a Wrangler would work too. Everything I've found has been over $400. I'd really like to keep this to $300 for the trip. Any help would be massively appreciated. I'd love to surprise her with the upgrade.

One note, I've found the Hertz family code and I'm a bit hesitant to use it. Still it's around $400 for the trip.

Info:

Airport - OGG in Maui
Dates - August 13 2:30pm - August 20 7:00 pm

Personally unless you can find some good convt deals now, I would just keep your reservation and ask for an upgrade at the counter. Hawaii always has lots of convertibles to rent out and its usually cheaper to pay $10-20 extra per day for an upgrade (perhaps much less if they need to move them).

be careful if you plan on going off paved roads, I know when I returned cars in HI they checked the undersides very carefully to make sure the plastic airdams were not scratched. If you are not in Waikiki and going to the other islands, there are a lot of unpaved roads and parking lots especially at the beaches

Thanks to everyone who has replied thus far. I figured I'd try to get a cheap upgrade when we're there. I also reserved the wrangler just in case an upgrade isn't feasible.

Thanks again!!!

When we were there in December we booked cars with Thrifty using THIS SITE. All convertibles. We found they had the best rates of all the sites; as you've seen, renting cars in Hawaii is expensive!

Anyway, I plugged your dates into the Thrifty linked site and got an all-in price (including taxes, fees, etc) for a Sebring convertible of $396. The Wrangler may be cheaper.

Have fun!
