Walt Disney World typically raises their prices by about 10% the first Sunday in August (August 3rd this year). That means that this is the final week to buy WDW tickets at the 2007 prices. Since the 14-day expiration on the tickets doesn't start until you use them (unused tickets are good forever) this would be a very good time to buy if you are planning to go to Walt Disney World in the next year.

I searched around and compared prices before my last trip (looking at AAA, ticketsatwork, and other discount ticket sources). By far the cheapest was UndercoverTourist.com when you used the "MouseSavers" promotion code of 1OO732.

To apply the code, just go to http://www.undercovertourist.com/united-states/florida/orlando/attractions/tickets/?pid=1OO732. A cookie with the promotion code will be set so that you get these prices if you return to the site. You can tell you are getting the discount if the page says "Welcome Mouse Savers enjoy your special prices". If you want to view the non-discounted prices again you need to clear your cookies.

I am not affiliated with Undercover Tourist or Mousesavers, but I have used them in the past and been very happy. Unlike tickets purchased from Disney, Undercover Tourist lets you return tickets (with a 10% fee), and offer a 100% Hurricane Guarantee. They also keep a record of your ticket numbers so that if you lose them they can fax your numbers to Disney and get your tickets reissued. Again, this isn't a referral offer or anything, I'm just a satisfied customer.

Another hint for Walt Disney World tickets is that once you use them the first time, you can upgrade them by paying the difference between the full price of your ticket and the full price of the ticket you want to upgrade to (if you don't use it first you pay the difference between the wholesale price of your ticket and the full price of what you are upgrading to, which can be quite a bit more money). Because of this, it makes sense to buy the ticket with the most savings, not the ticket that's exactly what you want. For example, a 7-day base ticket is $13 off the gate price but a 10-day base ticket is only $7 off the gate price. Therefore, if you are going for 10 days you save $6 per ticket by buying the 7-day ticket and adding three more days at Guest Relations in the theme parks.

Also, for more than you ever wanted to know about Walt Disney World tickets, see Everything About WDW Tickets at the DISBoards.

Mousesavers exclusive ticket offers are meant for mousesavers newsletter subscribers ony. The email that is sent wth this link specifically requests that the link not be shared.

EDIT: I'm a member of Disney Vacation Club, an annual passholder, and just came back from vacation at Disney a couple of weeks ago. I have not seen any indication that the ticket prices will increase on 8/3. In fact, wit the current state of the economy and the fact that attendance is definitely down, I would not count on a ticket price right now. Besides, 2 or 3 years ago, the prices changed in December, I think, so prices do NOT always increase the 1st week of August.

If you have confirmed plans to visit Disney World, I would go ahead and buy the tickets. A Mousesavers newsletter warns of a potential price increase on Aug 3rd and Undercover Tourist notes that their prices will definitely be going up on Aug 3rd.

If you're not sure exactly what ticket you want, buy the cheapest of the tickets you are considering - you can always upgrade when you get to Disney World.

A VERY interesting tip from Disboards insiders- always upgrade your tix after using a day. You will get more credit for them this way.

Doesn't sound right on the surface but apparently it's true- check it out on Dis Strategies thread.

Oh and if Mousesavers tells you something - BELIEVE IT. Disney has been raising prices right and left on everything this year. The DDP has been hugely devalued, room rates have gone way up, holiday pricing now if effect on meals- and still they are plenty busy.

I've read this as well. Apparently, if you upgrade before using the ticket, you'll only get credit for the discounted purchase price paid. If you upgrade after using the ticket, you get the current list price of the ticket.

I just want to agree with everything above, especially to upgrade at the gate after first use, but before 14 days from 1st use (and they cannot do it over the phone). Undercover tourist had the lowest prices but I waited until the last minute and they take a few days if you order on Friday so I had to go through MapleLeafTickets.com. They were good, and still save about $45 off the gate prices for 2 10-day passes, but would have saved 2x that w/ UnderCoverTourist. Here are the best money saving tricks I just found out the hard way:

(1) ADD THE WATER PARK AND MORE OPTION!!! It will give you (potentially, depending on use) additional days that do not count towards the "base" days. I.e. if you buy a 10 day ticket and add this option, you can go to Magic Kingdom 10 days and Blizzard Beach for 10 days, so max of 20 vacation days at a Disney park. An off-site rep told me this and I basically called BS, but I called Disney and they agreed, but now it is too late to upgrade (14 days from first use).
(2) ADD THE NO EXPIRATION OPTION WHEN YOU ARE DONE YOUR FIRST STAY!!! I bought a 10 day pass w/ no expiration and paid an extra $200 per ticket. We used 3 days, and now have 7 left. I could have bought a 10 day pass w/o the option (or whatever gives the most discount off the gate price as posted above), used 3 days, and then paid $100 per ticket to upgrade at the gate and make the last 7 days never expire.
(3) CONSIDER WHETHER YOU REALLY NEED THE HOPPER OPTION!!! If you have kids, chances are that when you are done with one park, you won't want to go to another. The only way you might use it is if you went to say, Animal Kingdom, during the day, and you wanted to go to Magic Kingdom at night for the fireworks. That would count as one day w/ the hopper, or two without. Since the hopper adds $50/ticket, and if you are doing the 7 or 10 day tickets the cost is approx. 20-40/day (depending on options), you have to decide whether you think it is worth it. I added it, but might never use it.

Hope that helps someone!
