I spent Thanksgiving weekend in Manhattan, after getting a great deal through AirTran vacations. I had never booked through a third party like AT Vacations - I have always booked directly from the airline and hotel sites, however booking the package rate allowed me to save some money.
What I did not know was since the hotel was booked through a third party, it would not be eligible for HHonors points. That is what I found out after the trip, by searching online for reasons why I was not given credit, and by calling the HHonors customer service line.
I just logged into my HHonors account, and credit for the trip is now showing, nearly 2 months later. Completely unexpected! Could it be because I was recently got upgraded to gold status thank to this FW forum? http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/expired-deals/1154637/
Anyone have a similar experience? Unless I know why I was given credit, I would be hesitant to book again through a third party in the future.
No experience with HHonors on this, but typically booking through 3-rd parties does not affect your ability to get points. So far it's been true for me at Priority Club hotels, Starwood hotels, Marriot and Radisson.
