Folks, what would be good time to look for cruise for a couple? I would be departing from east coast (probably Baltimore), and my destination is pretty much open. possibly caribbean islands? Travel duration is about a week.

that season is all low. Baltimore is not optimal port (Port Canaveral, FL has cheaper departures + you don't have to spend chilly days at sea).
Your ages are Crucial, if one is over 55 - the entire cabin may be discounted. If just over 50, u may be able to shop thru AARP website

Sept-Oct will be cheaper to the Caribbean because it's hurricane season.
Departing from Baltimore your choices will be more limited. Check on cruise.com for an idea of the prices of the various cruise lines/itineraries leaving from your port. Keep watching, sign up for the emails from the cruise lines you're interested in so you can get notified of sales.
Once you've settled on one or two possibilities, have them priced on cruisecompete.com for some competitive bids.

Sign up and you'll see their offers. It's a legit site and they're quite good, though some of the offers are delayed (i.e. sold out). Still, good for finding itineraries and general costs. Use a spam email if you'd like.
BTW 99% of the the requesters and responders in this forum are excruciatingly lazy.

I guess he could go to Atlantis and either Cape Canaveral or Disney/Universal (but will have to do the VIP ticket to make sure he can do as many rides as possible -- or is that Universal that has that)? I think we were in Freeport on a cruise and people told me the best thing to do there was stay on the ship. I ignored their advice, only to discover that they were correct.
The Royal Caribbean cruise leaving on 11/24 goes to their private island Cococay, which is going to be much nicer than Freeport.

Cheapest Oveanview is $849 but it's possible that there are regional deals.
Royal Caribbean has a special today and tomorrow where they have reduced deposits and free onboard credit.

I've done that exact cruise twice. It's fine, if you accept that it's a cheap cruise on a Carnival ship, and you're OK spending a week with sort of people who take a cheap cruise from Baltimore. I'd do it again, but then I sometimes like buckets of beer, cheeseburgers and reggae I also like sea days.

Still hadn't posted age, thoughNor what they want to spend. Affordable (what was mentioned in the OP) does not = low-price. Also don't know that it's a first cruise.

Don't leave from Baltimore as your choices will be severely limited. You do not want to go to Bermuda, trust me. Leave from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami for maximum choice and best prince. Western Caribbean or Southern Caribbean would work for you.

Western Caribbean or Southern Caribbean would work for you. Some people like Bermuda. And leaving from Baltimore (or NJ) can avoid flying. Let me tell you, it is WONDERFUL to be able to drive to the port and not have to worry about paying to check your luggage and being able to take whatever you can fit in your car. I sailed out of NJ in December and it was so much nicer than putting up with flying. Yes, it's cheaper to sail out of Florida but what will it cost you in airfare and hotel (since you never want to fly in the day of your cruise)?
Obviously if you're nowhere near a port, you have no choice.

VTG doesn't list full breakdown of what you "will be out of pocket", it only lists indications of product rate.
On the subject of Fatwallet, members rely on it to get Hot Deals that they can't quickly find elsewhere

Since someone will invariably complain that the rate quoted does not include tips, there is little sense in asking for a complete price. Cruise fares that are quoted do not include port fees and taxes and I don't know that anyone is going to go to the trouble of coming up with a complete quote for the OP who posted a single sentence here and hasn't been back since. On the subject of Fatwallet, members rely on it to get Hot Deals that they can't quickly find elsewhereFortunately this is in Travel Discussion and not Hot Deals.

I agree that OP's M.O. is disappointing; this happens in way too many cases. A topic can still help those who participate - no need to be "the OP".

My point is that on Fatwallet we try to cut impulsive. People may go travel all they want, and write about travel all they want - but keep Fatwallet out of THAT KIND of process. In the infinity of internet, members use Fatwallet to isolate unique cost/profit nuances

This used to be "Travel Deals," and was pretty rigorously self-policed to keep the focus on Deals (much like Hot Deals is).
A few years ago FW decided to broaden the scope, and renamed it Travel Discussion. There was lots of spirited, um, Discussion at the time, but they were firm.
Agree that FW as a whole is more oriented on money-saving, but they've made the explicit decision to broaden this forum, so I don't think you should criticize people for having a travel discussion on a forum called Travel Discussion.
Ironically, this forum is also the source of some of the worst travel advice I've every read....people looking for advice on good cruises belong on Cruise Critic first. Folks looking for airfare/FF mile info should visit FlyerTalk. And the endless "where should I go/what should I do there" questions really will be answered much more usefully on Trip Advisor.

You can say the same thing for people looking for advice on audio / video systems (avsforums.com), VoIP providers (dslreports.com), etc.
