Spirit sells a dirt cheap ticket, then has all fees based on what you use. If you can travel with a backpack that fits under the seat in front of you, and don't want anything at all on board (not even a beverage), while being crammed in, and being surrounded by ad's, well Spirit is perfect. You can fly really cheap. However if you want to bring your huge bags, get 2 sodas, have extra legroom, board first, not sit in the middle seat, and have a plane that does not look like your driving on I95 downtown, then Spirit is not right for you.

Do NOT travel with Spirit Airlines, they are cheap but with a lot of drawbacks as per rickt86's post. Sadly not a lot of people that flys with them as first timers know all the hidden cost and that's how Spirit makes their money. This type of business model is very sneaky and I'm surprised there's not that many complaints about them here.

To be fair this in only if you declare your carry-on at the gate, you can reduce that fee significantly by checking your carry-on online or at the kiosk.

Carry on should still be alloud. If it's only commute than pl don't need to bring their cloth.
What I'm wondering is why they don't charge by the weight. Before the obese people chime in, it makes perfect sense. Why should I, as a 200lb man, pay the same as a 350lb man but if I were to check that at the counter, I would have to pay $$$.
