I recently booked at the Hotel Mela which has an end of Summer Rate that is $250 a night. Not sure if it is available on the nights you are going. Haven't stayed there yet but it is a typical small room boutique NYC hotel. Close to Times Square. You most likely won't find anything less than that in the TS area.

Try looking at the Marriott Chain. Type in your city then you click on the "my dates are flexible" box (dont type in any dates). You can then select the individual hotels and look at the rate calendar for that particular hotel for the next few months. It automatically highlights the dates with the lowest rates. I have used it to get a rate of $125 at the Marriott East Side.
