Hey guys. I want to plan a vacation to Tahiti and stay in one of those nice overwater bungalows. What is the most cost effective way of doing so. Which places offer the best value?

"Tahiti" and "cost effective" are usually not found in the same sentence.
However if you insist on trying to force the 2 together, the overwater bungalows in Moorea and Tahiti will be significantly cheaper than Bora Bora.
I leave to conduct site inspections for all 3 islands next week - looking forward to being back in one of the most spectacular places on the planet that I have ever been to!

Learn how to use reward credit cards to accumulate miles on AA (partner with Air Tahiti Nui), Hilton (several bungalow properties) for free airfare, hotel stay. One good resource is www.frugaltravelguy.com. From there, food and activities can be quite pricey.

OP - let me put you out of your misery... This board for those going to Tahiti will be warmer to your lack of research. Tahiti Explorer - Link
Perhaps give it a read before you post there. Give your budget (which would mean a killer trip but alas is pretty low for Tahiti/Bora) - My advice - price your flights before you do a lot of research because you may find it takes 4k to get there for 2.
