I've probably watched The Hangover one too many times, but how does one truly get a Vegas suite on the cheap? I've used the sandwich trick a few times with sucess, but is there another super secret handshake to get one of the big baller suites on the cheap?
3) Wear the appropriate garments @ checkin and a free upgrade to a suite magically appears.

A cute reference to bribing the check in person in order to have them switch you to a "better" room.
You should use cash, not a ham sandwich....

If you want a big baller suite, you better make money like a big baller, because it will cost you more than a big baller.
You see, unless you pay the rack rate, you will not get comped those rooms, unless you are famous (not necessarily rich). They mostly comp those out to celebrities (A or B), or upgrade the near-celebrities (C or D) so that they do not get negative press. To get those at a discount or free, you better have a representative making all the reservations for you.

unfortunately I am not a hot chic or any level of celebrity. I was just wondering do any normal people have any access/hope of getting one of those suites.

Prince Harry Windsor had to pay. Why wouldn't a "normal"?

The $20 trick can work for an upgrade for a baby suite. Very rarely does one get a mega suite that you would see in The Hangover. In fact, I have never heard of it being done. (I once got a HUGE suite at the Flamingo, using the $20 trick. I mean HUGE, full living room, full kitchen, closed off master bedrooom, etc. The problem was, the furniture was straight out of the 70's, so I don't include it as getting a mega suite.)
Sadly, the only way to get a mega suite is to pay for it, or be a high roller.

true true. I work at Ballys/Paris/Planet Hollywood/Caesars Palace as an Entertainment Manager and its hard to get comped. Having someone on the inside that can work it and get you a discounted rate is probably the only way. I work alot with Entertainment performing in the casino, and VIP/Butler services so I get the hook up occasionally. Recently I got a Panorama suite at Planet Hollywood for $0 for my birthday, and on occasion the same suite for $125-$300 for the same suite for friends.

I have found the Harrahs properties the easiest to get comped using the $20 trick. In fact, I can't remember not ever being upgraded. I have had success at all of Harrah's properties other than Caesars, and that's only because I have never stayed there. (Also, have never stayed at the Imperial Palace because that place gives me the shudders.)

We just stayed at the Hilton Elara, which is on Harmon, behind Planet Hollywood, at the back of the Miracle Mile Mall. The MVP + AAA rate for studios was $79 during the week, $105 weekends. I did not check the website, but the front desk offered a 1 br suite for $20 per night more (could have been because I am Hhonors Diamond); we did not bite, was able to get a quick look, seemed quite nice. All rooms have a fully equipped kitchenette, earn Hhonors points.
