The Tropicana hotel in Las Vegas is becoming a doubletree (Hilton family) hotel. This is good news for those who want to earn / use HHoners points to stay at a Las Vegas hotel with a casino.

when we were there a few months ago they did something like this as well, but your
reimbursement had to be used the following day after your losses. That way you couldn't
hit and run, and they had a chance you forgot to go back.

additionally, only certain slot machines accepted the reimbursement credit. we wandered around
for a long time, trying to match something the wife approved of with something that accepted the credit.

Well, worth it though, if you're going to lose anyway, why not get some of it back, even with hoops.

Wasn't the original Tropicana the original Bugsy Seigel founding of Las Vegas gambling? I think so.

No, he started the Flamingo Hotel & Casino.

If you go to the Flamingo, there is a memorial area in their garden honoring Bugsy, their founder.

We saw a show at the Flamingo last week, in Bugsy's Caberet.

There has been a thread on FlyerTalk for several months now http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilton-hhonors/1400134-tropicana-...

doubletree branding becomes effective January 15, appears that Hhonors Gold and Diamond will not have to pay resort fee, receive free breakfast daily.

Somehow I think it won't be the same when they start greeting guests with chocolate chip cookies.

Opening Jan 10, 2013.

Looks like they're taking reservations.

Rooms seem to be available at the "old" (non-doubletree) site, but not at the "new" (doubletree) site.
Rates seem to have increased dramatically!

Seems that initial reports were wrong - Gold and Diamond WILL be paying the resort fee, no confirmation of plans for free breakfast benefit. Lots of unhappy people in the FT Hhonors forum. Until / unless something changes, I will stick with the Elara.
