Maybe I missed the point but you also have to search the Airlines own Web Site heres an example... Go to US Airways and pick your airports but don't pick travel dates but instead choose price, your then given a range of travel dates at a much reduced price. I find this type of search beats all the others hands down.

Sidestep does not have to be downloaded any more..you can check the airfares on the website itself. OP Please note !

thanks for this thread...

faremax.com I highly suggest to anyone to check this out....I found the tickets I was looking for from Chicago to Philly for 50 bucks less than anywhere...and I checked about 10 other sites. Hotwire came in a close second.

Just thought I'd share a recent experience in buying airline tickets with Northwest. I live in a city that NW has a hub, so generally you can expect them to have the lowest fares. (I still check all airline and availabilities) I was planning to fly to Miami in April. I shopped the NW website for fares for several days. I had a choice of several flights that would match my itinerary. I booked when the fares started to rise for the flight. Three days later, on a Sunday, checked the web site again and same flight was $30.00 less. Called reservations to get a price adjustment, was told, no can do, unless I pay a reticketing fee of $25.00 which wipes out most of savings. I wouldn't let it drop, communicated with NW via online complaint, they refused to budge, gave me all kinds of excuses why. Being the stubborn person I am, I tryed figure out how I could prevent being stung by this again. Told NWA what I came up with a solution, and they refused to either condone or recommend this method. You can book airfare on NWA sight on line and cancel within 24 hours with no penalty(cancel via phone reservation line) So you can book a fare, check the online price the next day, cancel via phone reservations line and rebook fare. You can continue to do this until your convinced you've got the lowest fare their going to offer. Best I can figure is the large travel agents are doing the same, which probably explains why I landed on the fare on Sunday. My guess is they use the same method, buying blocks of tickets at a low fare, and if not able to resell within 24 hours, throw them back to the airline without penalty. Granted this is a labor intensive method, but, on a high price destination, or if your buying multiple tickets, the saving could be significant. Any thoughts or pointers on the subject. P.S. please don't use this method without checking with Northwest for yourself! Rules can change at any time!

Another good one for international is www.flycheapabroad.com/

I also like that its uber-fast and shows the price w/ all the taxes on the very first page (dont have to waste time clicking to see if its actually available.)

I was look for flights during Thanksgiving week and ITA was by far the best at finding the cheapest fare. It lets you look at different airports and also one day either before or after. VERY VERY GODD
I highly recommend.

Has anyone got the 5% United link to work recently? I've tried it numerous times over the past five months and it has never been available. It used to work the majority of the time for me.

I'm booking an option jaw from SEA to Madrid, and Milan to SEA. After nearly exhausting my options, I found Continental (via Expedia) to be the best option at $940. I then went to all of the sites listed here and found CheapTickets for $850. Saving nearly $200 on 2 tickets.

The interesting thing was, on the page to select the flights, it said $957, but when I selected it, the total (after taxes and costs) was $850. Dunno why. Makes me wish I had tried that on a bunch of other sites.

Thanks to all the great info here!
