$212.00 (includes estimated taxes & fees*) 2 day minimum stay; 30 day maximum stay; Fare effective 7-Mar-05 to 19-May-05; Last day to buy ticket is 13-Mar-05; (fare code VXS047WH)
how would I book this?
PLEASE, 4 PEOPLE HAS ASKED THE SAME QUESTIONS AND NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW THE ANSWER??!!! NEED HELP THANKS!
I CALLED THE AIRLINES AND EXPEDIA, BUT NEITHER ONE SAYS THEY CAN BOOK IT WITH ONLY A FAIR BASIS CODE; ALWAYS NEEDS A DEPARTURE AND RETURN DATE ALL ALL THAT JUNK... AND EVEN TRYING TO ASK ME WHERE I FOUND THIS CODE... THIS SUCKS, KNOWING A MUCH CHEAPER FARE EXISTS BUT CANNOT BOOK IT!!!!!!!!!
Sorry got too emotional... hope i did not hurt anyone's feelings, especially that of admaxx. I just got frustrated, and at least one of those who asked the same question shares the same feeling as mine. |

Thanks!!! Very cool list. I recently tried SideStep on your recommendation and it was great, although still some room for improvement. Ended up booking on Expedia...I LOVE the free magazine offer they give you in their add-on section! I got BusinessWeek! |

I used to work for the airlines (both American Airlines and Delta.) From when I used to work there (which was about 8 years ago), the way airfare codes work is there is a limited number of availability of that particular airfare code available. They need dates of departure/arrival because based on those dates the computer will pull up appliciable airfare codes left avail. and give you the cheapest. So, for example: if you are booking a flight on Monday and there are three different times you can leave, one jet might have the airfare code of VXS047WH on two seats, whereas another might have sold out of those seats with that airfare code already. Where you really get screwed is that in order to get that exact rate (in your example: 212.00), you must have a seat there and a return seat that both have that same airfare code. If on your return you were not able to obtain that code, then your price will raise slightly and sometime significantly. Now -- if you're REALLY lucky and have an agent that knows what they are doing (and you're really nice to the agent), an agent can force a code (little known secret shared by agents.. Back when I worked for American, I did it for a couple of people that showed up at the airport with a code in hand - I was able to manually force it and print up the tickets.) But it takes a lot of manuvuering and searching on the part of the agent and most won't take the time or have the knowledge to do it. It's still good to have the airfare code because when you call in with an arrival/departure date, you can request that the agent look for seats that have that code applied to them. There's just no gaurantee that they will find them. I know its not the best news, but I hope that helps some. |

By the way, another little tip.. my husband is military. If you or any member of your family is military, be sure to ask the agent for a military/gov. rate. A lot of times its cheapest rate out there and unpublished. It's especially useful in cases of emergencies as 9 times out of 10 it is lower than any bereavement fare and can be purchased last minute. Finally, if you are military and have to cancel a flight or change the dates, most airlines will waive the change fee for the military personnel and any family members if the reason for the cancellation/change is because of deployment orders, TDY orders or other work related issues - which always seem to come up in my family. Just something to keep in mind. |

Yes. Call the airline and tell them you didn't have time to go through 20 pages on the Travel deals forum and ask them if they can just give it to you cheaply. Works every time. |

In using Mobissimo and Sidestep, I still find American Airlines's ADVANCED SEARCH utilizing ALL CARRIERS still consistently finds me the cheapest fares even on other airlines. If they happen to find me a cheaper fare on another airline, I just go that carrier, for example Continental, search by schedule and select the exact flights (by flight number) as the search gave me, and invariably the correct (cheaper) fare results. |

On SW, you can cancel any flight and apply the $ to another purchase, but it must be done within one year. You can do the whole thing online, too. |

For multiple destinations, Orbitz is the way to go. 370 from SFO -> IAD -> NYC -> SFO. That too with just 10 days in advance. I had to be a lil flexible with timing though. Also, look for the fares around 1 pm PST. They seem lower than the rest of the day for the same trip. Some kinda systems updates, maybe.. Rest were all 600+ |

Bump for a great thread. Any recommendations for Vancouver via SFO? So far $400 seems to be the lowest round trip. |
