There seem to be so many requests for help finding cheap airline tickets, hotels, etc. Before posting and in the post maybe people could start:

1. Read the topics on how to find the best airfare and hotel.
2. Search the topics to make sure your topic hasn't been discussed---Disney is an example one that is posted over and over on how to find cheap tickets
3. Search for the discount codes posted for rental cars, airlines, etc.
4. Search yourself and list the prices you found. People are willing to help if you show you have made an effort to find out information yourself.

There are so many posts by "newbies" who say I need a ticket from _______ to _______ . Help me. OR I need a rental car for these dates ______ in this city________ what is the best rate. Tell what you have found and people are willing to help.

If you show you made an attempt to find deals most people will help...if you just say find me a deal people won't.

Start each Post Topic with the a tag such as "HELP-......."
or "ASSISTANCE REQUESTED -......." if you are asking for help.

Make sure you include your dates of travel, exactly what you are looking for, where you are looking for, for how many people (ages), and what you have found and where.

Excellent post!!

GREEN!!

Well put.

People should also start each Post Topic with the same tag such as "HELP-......."
or "ASSISTANCE REQUESTED -......." if they are asking for help.

That way people who dont have time to sort out where the actual travel deals are can bypass the ones which are merely asking for free travel planning services.

Well done! We should definitely sticky this up.

alert mods

Why bother...no one reads the stickies.

I wish the moderators would open a seperate thread for request and close all request in the travel deals that are such request.

I help everyone I see with a request if I can but if they are not clear in their topic that it is I refuse to reply.

I agree, rarely do people exhaust all options when searching for deals. A lot of deals are allready posted (rental care promotions etc.).

Funny how I travel 20X as much as the people requesting deals, yet I never come in begging for cheaper price etc. Why? because I do research first.

Who wants to bet that within the next 3 hours or so, we'll have multiple posts requesting info

I think this thread needs a BUMP...

If you see some of the idiots that post on bft, I can somewhat understand why she is the way she is, again somewhat.

alert mods

its pretty clear that to restrain forum creep, you have to enforce some standards.

alert mods

Now all we need is some enforcement.

Please consider changing the title of this sticky to:

"READ THIS BEFORE POSTING!! Guide to Request Etiquette"

The current title does not catch the eye!

Thanks, M2B.

While there might be few who make a post without doing a research, I believe that most people have made a search for low fares, and people who know FW, would definitely know about Orbitz, Hotwire, etc, yes, they might not know about mobissimo, but then some good fellow will reply......

Also, the Sticky posts are General posts on common subjects (e.g. cheap airfare) are very common and span across 5-10 pages, so if one makes a search, e.g. airfare to India, he might get this Long sticky thread in his result page along with other 10 results, and he would then go thru each and every page often missing what he wants.....

I believe they should be given a benefit of doubt and let them post a New post.....
I have had this experience, and then in most of the cases the Mods do redirect them to the right thread (that is what they are here for)

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience.
