I agree. It is probably a reward you earn, where they give you the coupon code to make the reservation and mail or email you the certificate.

I changed my reseration. It costing me an extra $110, but I am hoping I can find a better deal in the next couple weeks and modify.

Anyone have success picking up an SUV without a coupon printout for the tax only weekend deal?

Do the following codes actually required a printed coupon upon picking up the vehicle:

10009783 (Make a big discount off of full size and some others)
10009785 (Looks like another upgrade coupon)
10009786 (Looks like big discounts off full size, intermediate, and basic)
10009789 (another upgrade)
10009790 ($10 off?)
10009791 ($10 off?)
10009792 ($25 off NO length minimum!!!!)
10009793 ($10 off)
10009794 ($25 off NO minimum!!!)
10009799 ($10 off)
10009800 ($25 off NO min!!!)
10009804 (upgrade)
10009805 (10 off)
10009806 (25 off)

I have no idea. I simply was changing numbers up and found these numbers. Given the fact that most have HUGE discounts, I would guess its a huge YMMV if you use these without the coupon.

FYI: Someone in another post mentioned that these might be some kind of AA awards codes.

I found them on FF but with no explanation as to where they are from. That's why I posted them here, to see if anyone knows anything about them because I'm sure you will need the printed coupon for a deal this good.

what is "FF"?

Made a reservation with several of them and it indicated the following on the confirmation:

Qsp - Pitt01 ($100.00)

Is it better to used these through the Emerald Club or doesn't it make any difference?

Honestly folks... we all love a good deal but entering random or semi-random coupon codes is a complete waste of time without an actual physical coupon.

National requires a copy of the coupon otherwise I would say it is not worth the risk or hassle.

OFFBEAT said: although if i remember correctly- one of the perks of being an emerald member you can bypass the regular "checkout" lane inside and go directly to the parking lot pick your car and show the information to the parking attendant and drive off

The attendant has full access to a terminal in their booth so they pick up the check coupon flag which will pop up on any coupon code other than those issued directly through the national website (the generic ones anyone can use). So don't think for a moment that having emerald bypass will allow you to slip through the system. An incompetent/don't-give-a-dam clerk, perhaps, but not through the emerald program itself. They're going to ask for the coupon and will have no problem keeping you tied up while you pretend to be searching for one in your bag. A no-go will result in the coupon being deleted from your invoice, though they may tell you that if you find the coupon later you can turn it in for an adjustment.

So all of those codes I previously specified are useless or is there a way to obtain to the corresponding coupons?

If none of those are actually valid then without the coupons, what are the best contract codes then for the best rate on a full size and/or are there any valid coupons codes that can be applied where the coupons can be printed out?

Thank you the fee was waived! Awesome start!

What?

Can someone provide a comparable list to the initial posting on this topic or should a new, current, topic be started with valid codes and coupons?

simsk said: Thank you the fee was waived! Awesome start!

I'll confirm this source code worked.

I signed up for the Emerald Club using Source Code 1182 and the $50 annual fee was waived.

I've tried the two and three day free rental codes though and each came up saying the coupon will expire before the rental period - and I was pricing out a rental starting tomorrow (1/28).

Two Free SUV DAYS use 10009780--
Three Free Days Use 10009782--

So, I'd say these two codes are no longer valid.

Anyone else having any luck? I'm looking to book a car from 2/16 to 2/21 in Tampa.

Using their WWEB promotion code, I securred $178 for a mid size (Before $50 in extra fees).

While that's a good price, I wouldn't mind getting something cheaper, of course!

Also, does anyone know if Emerald Club members truly get a non-spousal additional driver added on to the rental for free? I've read that on the 'net but I'm looking for confirmation from anyone who knows for sure.

Thoughts?

Woo Hoo Thanks!!

How do we go about getting the free emerald club?? Very confused... need help!!

Looks like the best contract ID currently going is 5760339 (Carlson Travel) with a $20 Weekly Rental Discount through the Entertainment Book. Made a reservation for late February out of Fort Lauderdale airport for 5 days, Intermediate, total cost of $146.00.

Anyone know of any better combination to beat that rate?

Anyone know of any stackable coupons or contract ID that will apply to reducing or deleting the Taxes, Surcharges and Fees costs?

Contract ID 6600330, which appears to no longer be effective, enabled a reservations to be made with no charges for the Taxes, Surcharges and Fees.

For 2 rentals (1 out of Washington Dulles Airport and 1 out of Atlanta airport) in Feb, the combo I had the best prices with was Contract ID 6600431 and Coupon 10009733 ($10 off weekend rental) for a 3 day rental with minivan for $157.75.

For a intermediate or full size the best prices were with Contract 6600431 and Coupon 10009292 (1 class upgrade).

If you want the LDW use Contract 5004458 and coupon 10009733 ($10 off weekend rental). Prices were about $5 more but included the LDW for free.

Does anyone have a screengrab of the coupon code #10009783 for a free/discounted weekend day? I rented and they said without the coupon printed out they wouldn't do anything. Thanks

I have two questions:

1. Anybody know how to get a good discount on a convertible?
I've found some codes with various companies, but they don't allow a different drop off location. I need to pick up in L.A. 03-23 and drop off in Vegas 03-28. I am an Emerald Club member.

2. With a double upgrade, would that bring me from a intermediate to a premium?
I booked the nwa double upgrade contract 5004067, coupon NU5, but I didn't enter 5004067 and just used NU5 since my Emerald contract i.d. was a little cheaper. When I tried booking a Compact, it brought me up to a Full-size. When I tried booking an Intermediate, it still just brought me up to a Full-size. The discount was stated to be available for upgrades from Compact and Intermediate and both were highlighted in the reservations screen. I went ahead and booked an intermediate which should bring me up to a Premium? with the double upgrade, but it only shows an upgrade to a Full-size. Do you know if they will take care of it at the desk and give me a Premium or will I be stuck with a Full-size? If so, I would prefer to cancel and book the compact since it was $16 cheaper: $182.86 vs. $167.61.

Thanks for your help!

The upgrades usually only work up to a Full size. You should cancel and rebook at a compact.

Also, FYI, as an Emerald Club member and having a full size or larger booked, you should get run of the lot slection, meaning if a premium is available and you want it, you get it at no extra cost.

Thanks for the info. troutmd. I hope a decent selection is available when I arrive at 11:00 p.m.!

Please help. I screwed up.

I need a car rental for my wife on Feb 1 p/u 8pm and return Feb 4 dropoff 2pm.
Tucson.

I forgot to make the reservation and we just realized it now!

The rate for 3 days is $375 +.

Oh boy, any ideas/help how to bail my A__ out of hot water.

If she finds out, I am dead meat.

Thanks in advance as I am struggling to do better and am not
all that familiar with the plethora of National Car Rental codes.

I do have the Entertainment book for 2006 if that helps.

P.S. I just need a midsize or close type car!

atwnsw ...best I can find is $330 at Hotwire. Priceline returns that $375 you mention. Have you tried bidding there? Wouldn't hurt to toss out a $250 bid.

I would like to thank you for your help. I have since gone to Budget
and found a rate of $186! Thanks for trying. That is what fatwallet is all about...

Glad you scored a decent deal. And I can relate to the wrath of an unhappy better half

Thanks holly90000...tried both the 2nd and 3rd scenario and both of those still turned out to be about $100 higher; any other combination suggestions besides what I mentioned?

Im headed to Honolulu for two weeks and im having a hard time finding anything under 400 dollars.
Im looking for any economy class vehicle, on or off the airport. Here's what I've found so far:

Expedia - 584.75
Hotwire - 403.66
Orbitz - 540.00
Priceline 540.00
CarRentals.com - 540.29

National (code WWWEB)- 400.00

Im really looking for a much better deal than this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Airliner - Do you know what company/association that coupon code corresponds to? That seems to give a total cost of about $5 less than what I previously mentioned.

I still don't know how to sign up for the free emerald club. Someone kindly guide me in the right direction!!

Emerald Aisle Clarification:

Been an Emerald Aisle member for sometime now but just now getting around to use it for the first time. So I made reservations for Fort Lauderdale airport for car class Intermediate. Upon arriving at the airport, the way I understand is you simply go to the National Aisle and pick any car. However, do they only carry the Intermediate car class in the Emerald Aisle, or do you pay the Intermediate car class rate, and can select from any car class available at that time? Meaning you won't get less than an Intermediate car class?

I am in need of some clarification.

I have looked at all the FAQ's and have come up with nothing to answer my question.

We are going to Alaska in June. I need to rent a car from 6/1-6/13. I have found National to have by far the best rates. I searched the net and found:

American Casino Guide 20% off National Rental-Contract ID: 5282964

Great, I was able to print the contract ID coupon and using the code took $30 off my rental cost.

I searched again and found a coupon number on this site:

10009800-Next to this coupon it says...$25 off NO MINIMUM

OK, so I go back to the National site and enter the coupon code and it gives me $25 off. Great, so I see that there is a drop down number choice next to the coupon code (0-7) So I enter 7 and the web site gives me $175 off the price of the car! This takes my price from over $400 down to $230.

The National web site says: Discount Coupon Accepted $175. Do I need a paper coupon for the 10009800 code? Where did that code come from?

Does national really honor 7 coupons? I am an Emerald Club member.

I just want to make sure I don't get shafted when I go to pick up the car.

Thanks,
Steve

I think this link will do it for you.I still don't know how to sign up for the free emerald club. Someone kindly guide me in the right direction!! Link

The wife just checked out an SUV out of Oakland Air for three days at $18.xx after using Coupon ID: 10009232. Since we are (free) Emerald Club mems they said just grab whatever you want.

That coupon got us $50 off and clicked in after I selected my car on the reservation page. They did NOT ask for coupon at the gate!

In fact, if you think about it, it would have been $8.xx for three days had National not added in the $10.00 fee for airport pickup. Not a bad little deal!

Is there a printable coupon just in case?

I just signed up for the Emerald Club for free. But what exactly is the advantage to being a member? I'm just looking for a good deal for renting in the 2nd week of March for about 4 days.

I'm new with the Emerald Club but the benefits are listed on their website here: http://www.nationalcar.com/. Just click on Emerald Club-Benefits.

It seems that the biggest plus is "Emerald Club Aisle Service®.The Emerald Club Aisle lets you bypass the counter and choose any vehicle on the Emerald Aisle by simply reserving an intermediate size car. Because National is committed to bringing you the newest fleet in the industry, you can rest assured knowing that our Aisle will have the most up-to-date intermediate vehicles from which you can choose. Emerald Club Aisle Service is available at most major U.S. airport locations."

Another advantage is being able to add an authorized driver for free.

And, you do get a small discount, but I'm not sure how that works. I think it is between 10 to 15 %.

What does Coupon Code 10009232 correspond to?

OK - for all of you that use National alot...any ideas?

I am needing to rent from 5 April - 12 April and with the AMEX contract code (will take AMEX with me but not use hopefully) and an actual coupon in hand I am getting a rate of $161.10 incl everything....I am very happy with that with one exception....I need the times to be off by a couple hours....meaning I need to pick up at 10:30 am on the 5th, but not drop off until like 2 on the 12th and it wants to charge me an extra day!

Any ideas?

Thanks to all, I am cross eyed from reading 14 pages of codes...but fairly happy to have done so lol.

Rental are always based on a 24 hour period with a 59 minute grace, so if you checkout the car at, say, 1pm, then the car is due back absolutely no later than 1:59pm the next day for a 1 day charge. However, if you returned the car at 3pm you would incur a two hour rate charge in addition to your daily rate fee. The hourly rate charge is usually quite outrageous, something like 50% of your day fee so it only takes a 2-3 hour charge before it envelopes what your daily rate would have been. In that case, once your hourly rate adds up to be equal to your daily rate then it's capped at that daily rate, so you incur a full day extra of charge.

Bottom line, pay up, or stall yourself around the airport and/or return early. I sometimes just 'hang out' at the airport when the added fees for just another hour or two isn't worth it.
