I need to rent a car from 03/11/06-03/17/06. We are going for spring break. I'll be renting from and returing to West Lafayette (LAF) and I am unedr 25 and not a member of emerald club (should I sign up ?). What coupon should I use, or where should I check for the best rates. I haven't used any coupons or contract ID's in past so I am new to this stuff and would appreciate all the help.

Thanks

The link doesn't work, anyone have one that does?

UPDATE 1.20.06

One car upgrade printable ++ more

anyone?

What link are you talking about?

srockey

On the first post at the very bottom with the January 2006 update.

It got us $50 off, as I stated. I should also add that we used Rate/Product Code CAE3 & Contract I.D. 5003542 along with the coupon code for the grand total of $18.xx

But do you know what organization the code corresponds to or can it be printed out?

IMNO, the best part of joining the Emerald Club is saving the $7 or more daily fee for your spouse or other driver to drive. This can add up significantly on a longer trip. I have found that the companies who do this don't tell you this up front. It's illegal in some states but it's a big thing in Florida. (Budget doesn't charge this there, btw; factor it in to your total cost if you are renting somewhere else and will have another driver OR join a club asap!) However, I THINK that if you are having an extra driver with National and are a member, you can't go thru the quick line. Can anyone fill me in on this? We will be using the free Emerald club for the first time in a coupla weeks.

Also, in addition to getting any car on the lot, I believe you get free extra insurance coverage.

I think it was told on this thread previously that it referred to some Airline reward. In fact, on my reservation from National it is called a "Air Miles Certificate Program" discount. Go figure. We did NOT have to show anything nor were asked to show anything at Oakland Airport. In fact, there were no questions asked at all.

Just the way the FW'er likes it....

lawnboy246 said: What does Coupon Code 10009232 correspond to?

tyfred15 said: The wife just checked out an SUV out of Oakland Air for three days at $18.xx after using Coupon ID: 10009232. Since we are (free) Emerald Club mems they said just grab whatever you want.

That coupon got us $50 off and clicked in after I selected my car on the reservation page. They did NOT ask for coupon at the gate!

In fact, if you think about it, it would have been $8.xx for three days had National not added in the $10.00 fee for airport pickup. Not a bad little deal!
Don't bother. That coupon is now showing:Capacity reached- Coupon 10009232 is not available.

Anyone know what is with this "Capacity reached"? Does every coupon have a maximum to it and when enough reservations are used with it, the coupon becomes invalid?

You can forget about Coupon 10009232! I used the coupon to make a reservation couple of days ago and got it down to an unbelievable $13 for a minivan. When I checked the reservation today it looks National has pulled off the coupon from the reservation! When I called them they said I will have to bring in the paper coupon as proof and then they will honor it!

Can anyone personally verify successfully renting with the Carlson Travel code? That produces amazing results and I just did 3 different sets of rentals with it... MUCH better than Continental, Emerald Club (worthless!) or Entertainment. I am wondering if they are going to ask for some kind of corporate ID.

Those rates seem to be the same as AMEX-- too bad I don't have an AMEX Card but should probably get one just to ensure these rates.

There are some other codes on the Mousesavers site.

riaesq said: Can anyone personally verify successfully renting with the Carlson Travel code?I used it in December, combined with a BJ's coupon, with no problem (Full size x 4 days, $110 total) and am using it for a trip later this month. No questions asked.

I used it over Thanksgiving with an AMEX coupon, which I brought with me.

What kinds of cars are available on the emerald aisle? SUV's or are they ALL intermediates?

SoonerLuvr said: What kinds of cars are available on the emerald aisle? SUV's or are they ALL intermediates?

Tends to be SUV heavy in many markets since GM can't sell them to the public and so unloading to fleets in vast amounts. Commonly intermediate vehicles such as the G6. Sometimes they have full sizes such as the Lacrosse, in some rare instances a premium vehicle such as the Lucerne. The better locations (i.e. LAX) have a wider spread of choices but it really depends on the time of day. You wont really have any idea until you get there.

hey did you ever find out where that coupon code(10009800) came fromsrockey said: I am in need of some clarification.

I have looked at all the FAQ's and have come up with nothing to answer my question.

We are going to Alaska in June. I need to rent a car from 6/1-6/13. I have found National to have by far the best rates. I searched the net and found:

American Casino Guide 20% off National Rental-Contract ID: 5282964

Great, I was able to print the contract ID coupon and using the code took $30 off my rental cost.

I searched again and found a coupon number on this site:

10009800-Next to this coupon it says...$25 off NO MINIMUM

OK, so I go back to the National site and enter the coupon code and it gives me $25 off. Great, so I see that there is a drop down number choice next to the coupon code (0-7) So I enter 7 and the web site gives me $175 off the price of the car! This takes my price from over $400 down to $230.

The National web site says: Discount Coupon Accepted $175. Do I need a paper coupon for the 10009800 code? Where did that code come from?

Does national really honor 7 coupons? I am an Emerald Club member.

I just want to make sure I don't get shafted when I go to pick up the car.

Thanks,
Steve

I think that number of coupons thing was a glitch which they have fixed. I tried to put in more than one just for the heck of it the other night and got "reprimanded" for inputting more than one. I find it odd that they even have a drop down for quantity... at any rate I can't imagine them taking 7 of the same coupons for one car.

I tried the coupon 10009800 on the national website, it did work
But I seriously doubt they will honour it, since it brings down my one week rental to 14.**.

lawnboy246 said: Do the following codes actually required a printed coupon upon picking up the vehicle:

sorry. i am asking the same question..how to get a printable coupon ..

ravelntraveler, couldn't locate any links on that website for the various codes mentioned here in order to actually be able to print out the coupons.

Let me clear this up. I posted the following codes:

10009785 (Looks like another upgrade coupon)
10009786 (Looks like big discounts off full size, intermediate, and basic)
10009789 (another upgrade)
10009790 ($10 off?)
10009791 ($10 off?)
10009792 ($25 off NO length minimum!!!!)
10009793 ($10 off)
10009794 ($25 off NO minimum!!!)
10009799 ($10 off)
10009800 ($25 off NO min!!!)
10009804 (upgrade)
10009805 (10 off)
10009806 (25 off)

These were from ENTERING RANDOM NUMBERS into the National Car Rental Site. Nobody on here has links to the ACTUAL OFFERS. It has been speculated that these MAY BE deals for 'airline rewards' or perhaps CC rewards. These are a HUGE YMMV and to tell you the truth I booked a car recently in Vegas and did not even bother using the above codes because I was happy paying a bit more for something I was 99% sure would work.

Good luck...

Does anyone have a way to get the Emerald Club for free? I can't find any active links. I'm just getting the $50 fee.

Thanks!

ATTN EVERYBODY:

I work for Vanguard Car Rental, the National and Alamo headquarters. These coupons are NOT VALID through this website. You ARE required to present a paper copy of the coupon upon rental pick-up.
PLEASE STOP POSTING NATIONAL OR ALAMO COUPON CODES ON THIS SITE!!!!

lahoo - saher

I once used a coupon code for Alamo and was asked to present the coupon when I arrived to pick up my rental. I didn't have it, and couldn't get it by the time I returned my car, so I didn't get the discount.

Aside, I'm looking to rent a car for the last two weeks of March at San Francisco airport. Alamo and National used to have some of the best rates, but as of today their rates are poo. The best rates, with coupons, going now for me are with Thrifty, Dollar, and Enterprise.

Can anyone supply a copy of the Carlson coupon (5760339? National has indicated they will require it at the time of rental.

Guys, help me out here if you could. I'm renting in Providence on the 8th of March and returning to Buffalo on the 14th. So far the best I got on a compact is $436 (after taxes and everything, with unlimited mileage included and LDW - which I am guessing won't be really useful because I am not affiliated). That was using 5004458 and coupon 10009786. Is there a potential better deal for me? I'm 23 y.o., I know it matters. TIA!

I used the Carlson code and one of the random $25 off coupon codes above on a four day rental through yesterday. I wasn't asked for any paperwork or coupons at either pickup or drop-off.

do you guys know that if you are an emerald club member you are automatically getting rates as low as the best Contract ID would get you? I mean rates before a coupon is applied. So you won't have to worry about proving you are entitled to use the Contract ID you used.
Emerald club is free, just search this forum

Just returned from renting in both Nashville and Orlando. Had to turn in Entertainment coupon both times. Used Carlson, no prob. I saw some connection with Carlson to Goldpoints. Can any GP member confirm what that is? I am a member but haven't boned up on the details yet.

The Emerald discount has paled in comparison to some of the other codes mentioned. Seems to be worth maybe 10%. It's about $180 more for an intermediate for two weeks in April than with some other codes. Best to play around and see what works best. HOWEVER, the great thing about Emerald Isle is the possible choice of cars you get at the intermediate rate. We just drove a Jeep Commander for the past week for under $200. They had many convertibles, minivans and other great choices on the Isle. DS would've liked the PT Cruiser Convertible but we couldn't get luggage for the three of us into it!

Maybe it depends on location etc, but when I login as an Emerald member and I run a quote I get (for example) $150 per week rate, then I log out and get the same quote with the Carlson ID, I get $200 wk rate and then some % discount on the final page so it becomes $150 again (before coupons).

Not true. Using the carlson code brought me down to about half the cost of the emerald club quote.
