My friends and I are planning a trip to India. We are mainly looking to visit Mumbai, Agra and Goa. We are planning to leave around December 14 and we need to return on New Years day.

Does anyone know of any packages that may cover these places. Also, this is our first visit to India, is this enough time?

I haven't checked prices with any travel agents yet, but I will soon. I'm posting more to figure out what you people who have been to India think of this trip (i.e. enough time, any other places we should visit, any other suggestions).

I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Your questions are pretty well answered at ba.com, do some search there yourself.

A few warnings:-
14 days is not enough for what you want to cover those places properly. My suggestion is, skip Goa and keep your interest on Agra and surrounding area's. It has a lot to offer historically. flights to Delhi are usually a little cheaper than Mumbai. However, I strongly suggest you to change your travel plan, since plane fare goes to its annual peak during december 10-12th to 25th, for all flights to India. Same holds true when your return date is on ~5th to 15th Jan.
I can not give your any suggestion regarding the packages, since I have always managed my own travel plans. However, it is better to give a few bucks extra since you will be traveling for the first time to India. If you are not good at bargaining, you will be ripped off since we do not have any fixed pricing system in India. So, travel agents/packages may be a better deal.

My wife and I made the same trip last November over Thanksgiving. Fly into Delhi, take a 2 day tour of the city while you get over jetlag etc. Watch out though - almost every rickshaw/ taxi driver is a scam artist when they spot a tourist, so you're much better off hiring a private taxi for the whole day.

Day 3, sign up for a one day tour of Agra/ Taj that takes you roundtrip by train. The train to and from Agra on Shatabdi Express is air-conditioned and includes breakfast and dinner(Only bad thing was our train was 3 hours late leaving Delhi which meant we could only see the Taj and Fort but I couldn't imagine doing more than that because we were really exhausted after all the walking). If you are shopping for arts and crafts in Delhi, don't go to any place the taxi driver recommends. Just locate the one and only Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE) in Connaught Place and go there. it's a great store and a good landmark. You can walk down the street in front of CCIE and find some good deals on clothes etc. Most of the Indian states also have their own licensed handicraft shops right along the same street and they are all great.

Day 4, you can fly out to Bombay and go on to Goa. Spend as much time as possible down in Goa 'cause it's awesome! We actually took the Rajdhani Express train from Delhi to Bombay which was much cheaper and the train ride was pretty comfortable for us to catch up on our sleep. I think you should be able to get a lot done in 2 weeks. Trust me, you will have a truly memorable time.

Please focus on Air-India code sharing (with Singapore Airlines) flight for MAA > Singapore > SFO . They always have lower price compare to other airlines. when your in-law return from USA to India, for this route they may have to go via Mumbai but remaining thing will be good. Other options will be Jet Airways or Eva Airlines.
All Tickets are valid for 6 month return.

"Jee Bhar Ke Raho Apne Desh Meai.."

When you go India and if you have to change return date, right now only West Coast side airlines allows to make on time change for FREE (as long as seats are available in same class, no penelty charge). Recently, Jet Airways (which covers East coast and West coast both) released low sale price compare to other airlines and important feature they added is, in Jet Airways you are allowed to change return date one time for FREE, plus another good point is, this lowest sale price is for 12 month travel period, so if your wife and kids is going India, and you do not know when they will be returning, this feature will help lots...Enjoy.

(Jet Airways one drawback is customs in Mumbai.)

New Connection for Lufthansa

Recently, we seen new flight mania, here is one more new connection...

From October 30th, Lufthansa is starting new direct flight service from Orlando to Frankfurt.

OK but, where does it help for India ??

This direct flight timing are,

LH 465 ORL [9:25PM] to FRA [11:20AM]
LH 464 FRA [2:05PM] to ORL [07:50PM]

For Orlando to India, it will help to catch connection for Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore. This flight will not help to make connection for Hyderabad, Chennai and Culcutta as this new flight is reaching noon at Frankfurt, where next connection flight is already left.

For India to Orlanda, it will help for Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Culcutta passenger to come Orlando directly with customs in Orlando.

Remember, Orlando is not a Gateway for Lufthansa (same as Atlanta and Detroit), so passengers flying from surrounding area airports will not be able to route their flight via Orlando > Frankfurt > India, this new connection will help only to those whose Journey starts only from Orlanda airport.
