gkothari - ATL is Gateway for Air-France so please see if you can get ticket for her from India BOM>CDG>ATL, Buying tickets from India is cheaper. - Air France has promotion till 31st MAY (For US Outbound passengers seats are not available - L Class, for BOM to ATL Seats are available, so it may benefit in your case if this works out for you)
With any airlines she will have to change flight atleast one time on any airport to reach ATL from BOM. |

Hi, I'm looking to go to India (New Delhi) from New York (JFK or LGA) on July 15 2006 or ASAP afer that, and then looking to return on August 21 2006. Do I need to get a travel agent even for such a straightforward route? Any suggestions or ideas on where to look for a cheap ticket (I'm a poor undergrad!) will be appreciated, thanks! |

singforthemoment,
Do I need to get a travel agent even for such a straightforward route? Buying tickets from travel agent gives 2 main benefit, (1) After you book your seat, you can have 3 days to think on it and to confirm your leave from work and then you pay. (2) Most of time, travel agent can get you ticket cheaper then what you get from online (Sometime this does not work out, if airline has not released (updated) their price change to agent's booking system). (3) Generally, website does not provide facility for stopover.
I'm a poor undergrad !! Can you find me atleast one rich customer ? I understand what you are saying but, we all are in same boat. My theory is, spend time, earn knowledge, become rich with knowledge, invest (or use) your knowledge and save money (or earn money). Saving a penny is same as earning a penny, But at one point, you need to look back and control on how much time you are spending to save how much? |

Hello
Am looking to book tickets for my parents from Bangalore to Seattle departing end of June and returning to India in the end of August. Need to come via London with a stopover in London. Will be great if someone can answer the following-
1. Will the stopover increase the fare. If yes, are there some days of the week on which it wont cost too much extra
2. Will buying the ticket from India be cheaper? Will a travel agent be cheaper ? Have been looking for fares on expedia.com , airlineconsolidator.com , kayak.com , makemytrip.com and ba.com - the difference in fares isnt much among all of these sites. Am wondering if the "buy from travel agent- its cheaper" is really true anymore ?
3. Does Brit Airways have more restrictive rules and different agents than the other airlines. On earlier occasions, some US travel agents told me they dont deal with BA tickets. |

AGENT BULLETIN UPDATES 2006/05/01 2006-05-01 If you are thinking to buy Air-India tickets during May first week then hurry up and buy it. Air-India is increasing Fuel Surcharge on/after 8th May which will be approx $30 to $68 increase to existing $200 (average) fuel Surcharge. This will apply to ticket issued on/after 8th May 2006.
If you have planned to travel with Air-India between 11th May to 25 May and have received quote from your agent before 1st May and have not purchased ticket yet, then please go back to your agent and ask him to re-quote it, because on 1st May bulletin, Air-India extended 11th May promotion up to 25th May, and you will be saving around $100. If your agent is not honest then he may not reveal this to you and that $100 can go to his pocket. If your ticket has been already issued on/before 30th April 2006 then nothing can be done. |

PatelfromIndia, thanks once again for your generous updates. Actually I feard the fuel surcharge increase a while ago. I think most airlines will have to follow the same route sooner or later unless crude oil price goes back to normal in next couple of months. 2.90 a gallon sucks big time in my wallet, airlines must have even more of a problem IMO. |

First, let me ask you if you ever read the FAQ section in this forum? That definitely answers soem of your questions. Here is my take. Mr Patel must be able to better answer though. 1. Yes but depends on where you are taking the stopover and more than likely you have to deal with local immigration and that will definitely raise your overall trip cost.
2. Once again depends on airline. One of my friend got his tkts from India for 1k where everyone of us paid like 1.2k and up. BUT take that with a pinch of salt since the tkt was in Alitalia (aka, Airplane Lands In Turin And Luggage In Ancona or Always Late In Take-off Always Late In Arrival). I can not give you any concrete advice about your purchase place of tickets. With agents, you will most likely get teh best fare plus a custom built itenary. Regarding your trip, you can do alot of adjustments thru your agents. On a negative side, once you purchase your tickets, you have to run to your agents door if you need to make any change. And any kind of refund is almost an impossible affair.
3. BA has some weired rules in terms of visa requirement. As for example, you have to have a transit visa unless you have H1B visa with return tickets or a green card. If you dont have either of them and you are not from some "white" countries, be ready to shell out 70 bucks for your transit visa before you start the travel. Their visa is processed by a third party which does not reply to emails and charge big $$ for phone call. There is a reason quite a few agents try to avoid BA. |

If you guys are thinking of buying tickets to India be sure to PM PatelFromIndia first. He was able to get me great rates and would always respond instantly to my e-mails. I have to say it was the best service I've ever received from a travel agent and I got lots of useful advice as well. |

Hi Patel, Iam planning my trip from Portland on May 27th to Bangalore. Return back to portland on June 24th, good u give an advice what wud be the best bet on the price. I contacted few agents, all of them suggest to goto LA and from there take Air India as part of their Itinary. Flying via london does it give me a better airfare?. These price are around 1300 bucks, so iam kinda rethinking on these people. Could you let me know on this. Thanks Prashant. |

Prasant, All are talking via LAX because only Air-India comes lowest via LAX Gateway (as I mentioned in one of the past post) plus air-india also has seat availibilty. If other airlines has lower price but, if seat is not available based on sale fare class then that low price does not make any meaning.
Why would you like to go via different route? For the date range which you have choosen, going via any other Gateway increases $250 for this perticular time period. Is it worth? To make it worth, you can take stopover. |

Can we not clutter the thread with posts that should be managed via the PM system? While PatelFromIndia is providing a great service, I think the actual transaction discussions should be outside the forum. |

bozo007, I agree, People should not post their specific travel request in this thread because we want to keep this thread for general information which can be useful to all people, not for a specific travel request which turns out quote request inside this thread. People hates reading long long threads and finally it turns out crap. Passenger trains are always shorter then goods trains. |

I read through the entire thread, including the post above which spoke about sending personal requests to Mr. Patel... However I still think that many of us may have the same Qn... and collective wisdom + future reference for others et al won... Also, I would like to thank Mr. Parel for so patiently answering everyone's queries... but I dint him to be bombarded with similar PMs... and so here comes the qn in the forum...
When do airlines open the best fares for December - Jan travel? I am thinking on the lines of 24th Dec to 14th Jan from IAD (or DCA) to BOM, and tried talking with Delta directly... who quoted 2K+ Orbitz is offering around 1.2K after taxes... Is this as low as it gets? Whatz the rite time to start looking for these fares? |
