If you like to see perfectly flat land, come out to Lubbock, TX. We have several wine making places as well. Also, thers is a Buddy Holly museum since he is from here...
As far as in DFW, go to Ft Worth and see the stockyards, hit Billy Bobs and see someone sing if your into country music. The Kimball art museum is in Ft Worth if your into that. There are gardens near downtown as well..
Of course there is Six Flags and their water park. In Dallas, you can vist Deep Ellum to see the wilder night life. Eat in the Hyatt Regnecy Tower (that big ball down town). The food is pricey and is ok although not out of this world (blow 100 bucks for two... BEAUTIFUL views on a clear nights.. it rotates around). Catch a ranger game/cowboys game. Check the AA center for any big artists that might be coming in town.. The hockey people play there too....
That'll keep you busy for a while...

I hear the aquarium in downtown is nice. There's the JFK memrorial and all that. I really don't understand why it is such a big draw. Just a big downer for me but I wasn't alive when it happened. The Dallas Arboretum is really nice in the fall and especially in the spring. There's Southfork Ranch, another place I just don't understand why people visit but many people do. There's tons of golfing around and nice places to hike or bike.
In Ft. Worth the museums are some of the best in the country - Kimball, Modern, Amon Carter, Science Place(kids)...Also their zoo is great. Downtown is incredibly safe and has all sorts of things going on.
West of DFWt here's also Fossil Rim(one of the best wildlife preserves) in Glen Rose and for a really far drive the oldest bottling plant in the world that uses only pure cane sugar in Dublin.
There really is tons to do but this is the worst part of the year. THE HEAT!!! Just look at the DMN paper. Right now Hurricane Harbor is a popular place to get in the water.

The best of TX, thru nature. My pick is reo grande and big bend. And if you don't mind crossing the state border, possibilities are endless in NM. Hope you will enjoy your trips outside of downtown, away from 50 different foods.

Visit the Texas Hill Country - Austin, Fredricksburg. There are many wineries in this area, always opportunities to see musical performances and great food. Visit Lockhart(east of Austin), its a small town with many BBQ joints. We have made a weekend out of eating BBQ. The Dallas area offers professional sporting events all year - Rangers, Cowboys, Stars, Mavericks.

You may want to checkout Lake Lewisville. It is an awesome lake. Jet Ski, wave runners, ski boat etc.
If you like gambling, Winstar Casinos may be a good place for you.

The best in TX from somebody moved from Europe
1) Swim in Lake Travis in Austin TX. Clean water, you will enjoy it alot. And don't forget to dine in Iguana Grill in the banks of the lake.
2) Swim in Frio River in Garner State Park. (Clearest water you will ever see, you can see 6 feet deep.
3) Take a tubing in Guadalape River. Clean and soothing nature along the river. It takes 3 hours costs 10 dollars. Call 830-885-4671
I have been here for 5 years this is the best things to do in TX the rest is BS.

The best place in Dallas is the airport. Take a flight and leave that state! Anyplace else is better.
