When you check in at the pier they will either tell you that the sailing is full or to check at the purser's desk(customer relations). The purser's desk always have a sign up that says the sailing is full. On cruise, you need to book the category and cabin you wish to stay in. Upgrades do happen, but normally before sailing and there really is no formula that any of us have figured out. (Some first time cruisers will be upgraded and yet a past passenger may not be upgraded. But beware what they consider is an upgrade may not be an upgrade for you. So if you are really happy with the stateroom you book, make sure your T.A. marks it "no upgrades".

The quote CruiseCompete gave is $60 higher than what I found online for a 4 night cruise, Can these agents still compete with online search service?
