1. When should I book my Vegas hotel? A. Book early and book often. Make the booking directly with the hotel so it is fully refundable until a couple days before arrival. Keep watching hotel rates and deals. If the rate at your hotel goes down, you can call and have them adjust it. If you find a better deal at a different hotel you can always cancel your refundable reservation at the original place.
2. Should I book with the hotel directly or with expedia, Orbitz, Hotels.com, etc etc? A. If you are booking far in advance, definately book directly with the hotel so your reservation can be changed and is refundable. In most cases it is generally preferable to book with the hotel directly, as you cannot apply your comps to your room bill if you've booked with a 3rd party, and many hotels will price match the rate. Once in a while you catch a great deal with a 3rd party site that cannot be matched or beat by the hotel. If your dates are solid and you're confident you won't earn a significant number of comps, go for it. Make sure you read the cancellation policy in full before doing so. Also be prepared to pay the full cost of the hotel up front.
3. Should I book hotel and air together or seperately? A. You should shop around until you find the best deal. Hotel and air deals can look very attractive due to the way they split the costs out per person. If you're interested in one of these deals, find out what you can purchase the airfare for independantly. Take the per person cost of the package, subtract the airfare amount, then multiply by two. That's how much the hotel is costing you. Now see if you can beat that price. Remember, purchasing the package will also make your hotel reservation nonrefundable and nonchangeable.
4. Do I need a players card for this promotion? A. Some promotional emails are sent out to anyone on the hotel's "list". Some promotions are targeted to a specific person. If it is a specific, targeted promotion, you won't be able to book it anyway unless you are the targeted person.
If it is a "list" promotion, it is basically open to anyone. Many of them will want you to have a players card, but if you are able to book the promo without a players card, they will most likely not ask for it at check in. If you arrive during the day, you can go to the promotions booth and sign up just in case they ask. If you arrive after the promotions booth is closed for the evening and they ask for a card, simply say, "I lost it, I need to get a new one in the morning."
I've never heard of them turning someone away at checkin with a confirmed reservation just because they could not immediately produce a players card. It may be a bit of a gamble, but it's the best odds you're going to get while you're in Vegas. Please do not bombard the hotel with calls asking if they will honor the promotion without a players card. If you're not comfortable with the risk factor, then don't use the promotion, but don't ruin it for others.
5. Where can I eat cheap near a particular hotel? A. www.cheapovegas.com
6. What is this $20 trick I have read about? A. You "tip" the front desk employee $20 trying to get an upgrade (usually a suite or a room with a better view). You can learn all about doing this at $20 Trick Website or read people's actual experiences on this forum on the Las Vegas Front Desk Tipping thread.
7. Can I sneak 3 or 4 or 600 people into one hotel room without paying extra? A. Maybe you can and maybe you can't. Depends on the hotel, the time of year, how grouchy the cleaning staff is feeling when they notice you've got extra people in there, etc. You may have trouble getting enough room keys (some places deactivatate the old keys when you say you lost the keys and get new ones), getting everyone into the pool, having enough towels, etc. You may also get asked to leave or be forced to pay an unbudgeted for extra person charge. Or you may get all the keys you need, get everyone into the pool and have no problems. I think it's a bad idea, but I know people get away with it all the time (and get caught all the time).
8. I want to post something on this thread asking for cheap deals on my dates, about certain room types, if there is a coffee maker in the room, or something else random that does not include sharing a new hotel promo code........what should I do? It's cheaper than anything else because it's the stratosphere. If you care that much about saving money, I would stay at the western. At the Strat, you're so far away from the Strip, you might as well stay Downtown. Check cheapovegas.com also.
