Thanks mom2Boys !
I checked a couple of offsite places, but our flight back home to Virginia leaves at like 6 am, and none of the offsite places are open that early. I was not aware that I could rent offsite and then return to a different site (like the airport) when the 2 locations are with 10 miles or so of one another. I will check that option asap. Thanks again !

Try Corporate Code 004M001010 which is the Visit Orlando Magicard (free signup here) at Thrifty.  Rate was less than Costco, USAA and Carrentalsavers.

So I think I'm going to try the Florida State Government one. I still have my student ID from UF, which looks exactly like the faculty IDs. It does say "student" on it in small letters, do they usually examine these things closely or just have you flash them? Worst case, I think it will make a decent "oh I didn't know that didn't qualify" excuse to get me outta there.

I'd like to make a backup booking with another company too, how do those work? To avoid being charged, do we have to actually cancel the booking or will we be not charged if we just never show up to the counter to pick it up?

rated:
Thought I would post a request..............

I spent 5 hours last night finding a great deal on an Avis rental with coupon codes on Fatwallet. I would however like to have a "backup plan" in the event Avis tells me I can't use the codes I rented with.

I've spend a couple hours today trying to find a "back up" plan, but not having much luck.

Airport - RSW
Pickup 1/10/15 at 3:30pm
Return 1/17/15 at 5:30pm
Looking for a intermediate vehicle (like a Chevy Cruze)

I believe RSW has Alamo, Budget, Enterprise and Dollar IN TERMINAL. I don't want to use a "no-name" rental company. I want one of the majors.

My Avis rental total is about $240, so anything in that neighborhood ($350/max) would be great. Also something that I can "reserve" but don't have to pay till I get to the counter (if Avis denies me).

Thank you for your help!!!!

Request: rental car at LAS

  • Dates of travel: Dec 17th (10:30AM) -Dec 25th (6:30PM)
  • Departure city (and airports)/destination: LAS
  • # of people (adults/children) (if children, you may wish to include ages):2
  • Approximate budget for your trip: about $200ish for economy (smallest car)
  •
  • WHAT YOU HAVE FOUND SO FAR IN YOUR RESEARCH: I have got a quote from budget for $264.42. with costco / 35$ off coupon. Somehow it's bumped up to intermediate SUV which I quite don't like due to high fuel cost. Corolla or even small will work, but it's more expensive than intermediate SUV

As long as rental car regional office picks me up from the airport, and i can drop it in the airport to avoid airport fee, I can consider it.
Someone can help me?

rated:
Your issue is the more than a week rate, which usually forces additional dates to be more expensive.

Payless is $254.89.  Enterprise is $283.30.    I am sure there's coupons for Enterprise that will drop that down some.

REQUEST - car rental at ATL

Atlanta, GA (Atlanta Airport - ATL)

Type: Mid-size and up

Pickup: Dec 15, 2014 - 2 pm or later
Dropoff: Dec 31, 2014 - 10 am

Tried:
National w Emerald Club and NF2902JDP - $623.46 (mid-size)
Alamo w Visa Contract and AF4469SDU - $518.24 (mid)
Avis w AWD D302003 and UUEA010 - $677.91 (mid)
Budget w BF&F BCD U112000 and MUWZ127 - $627.57 (mid)

I'd gone there for ~ 2 weeks a number of times and never had to pay more than $350 (tax & fees included) @ a major brand (last year - Standard @ Avis $340.76). I know travel costs are up, but > 50% is too much...

Hey all, I am a long time member/contributor but never done a travel req., so please bare with me First off, hanks in advance for your help! I am taking my Mom, Brother, his wife and our 3 kids to Tahoe. we are leaving on Xmas day and returning on the 29th. So far it look like we are better off with a week long rental so we could do Tuesday pickup and drop off.

- Pickup/Drop off: Anywhere in the northern half of SF Bay area. We can do a local branch in Marin or either of the major airports; OAK or SFO.
- We need a 7 or 8 passenger 4x4 SUV or 2 smaller SUV
- 12/23 to 12/30 for weekley rates or 12/25(xmas day) to 12/30 for shortest possible rental

So far we have:
Hertz Premium SUV with United Mileage Plus Gold - $1,104 week
Enterprise 4x4 7 seat SUV - Costco - $598.13 week
Avis Premium SUV - Xerox Corp AWD#Z76150 - 1,329.37 12/25 to 12/29
Avis Premium SUV - Xerox Corp AWD#Z76150 - 1,346.07 week

We could aalwys buy chains and rent two cars but it would be nice to drive up as a family (maybe not so much driving back?)

Thanks again!

You are going to have to pack very light if you plan to fit 7+ people and all your luggage inside one SUV.

So...No help beyond the obvious? We booked the Costco/Enterprise but we called the local branch that it was booked through and they said 4x4 is an extra $280 ($40 per day)?!? What are they going to do, disable it if we don't pay? Any help on this would really be appreciated! I don't want all of my FW savings for the year to go into one rental car for a family vacation

Does your Costco confirmation for Enterprise say that you are reserving a 7 pax 4X4 SUV?  If so, they -AFAIK- cannot make an upcharge for what is already included in the reservation. Maybe call the Costco travel number and let them check into it for you.

Unfortunately it does not specify and the sight does not offer a 4x4 option. I will call Costco Travel.

Reservation shows:
Full size SUV
GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe, or similar.
Automatic transmission, Air conditioning.

Thanks for your input.

I have to post this because it's something that is OVER THE TOP.................

I will NEVER EVER book a car again without using the website AUTOSLASH.COM. Let me explain...........

In October I booked a car via Avis with coupons codes found here for a vacation in January. At that time the BEST deal from any rental company was $390 for the week.

I read about Autoslash.com where you input your current deal and it automatically watches for better deals (same pick up date, time and location).

Earlier this week I got an email from AutoSlash about the opportunity with a different company for the SAME "intermediate" car for $230. I accepted it and booked it (no credit card needed). Within no time I got another alert for a deal at $194, and then a few hours later for $122!!!

Each time I was with a new rental company, but I don't care, I just wanted the BEST price! I went though about 4 different reservations until I got the current deal and the newest deal is on a Chrysler 200!!!!

So what I learned is this....... book with anyone at any price (who cares), put your rental in autoslash and let them find better deals. The best part is that you don't have to give a credit card until you pick up the car, and autoslash works 24/7/365 finding the best deals with the best discount codes/coupons/etc.

I'll never book a vehicle again without using autoslash!!!

REQUEST: 8 day rental in Salt Lake City
DATES: Feb 6 to 14
LOCATION: SLC Airport
REQUEST: Mid size car or Compact SUV

I would prefer to rent a 4x4 SUV, but the prices are coming out much higher. So if I cannot find anything reasonably economic, I will probably opt for a Mid/Full size.

What I have found so far:
1. Mid Size (my budget is ~$200-250)
- $267.30 for Chrysler 200 with Rugged Rental through CarRentalExpress.com
- $274.06 Chevy Impala via Hotwire/Hertz
- $273.99 Toyota Camry via EconomyBookings/Fox Rent-a-Car

2. Compact SUV (budget $300-350)
- $311.43 EconomyBookings/Fox Rent-a-Car
- $460.11 Hotwire/Enterprise
- $472.92 National with Contract ID 5299328

Clearly the EconomyBookings.com price of $311 for an SUV stands out, but I am not familiar with this company and fear it might be a scam.

Would appreciate any help!
