Hello,
We are planning to go to FL in a few months and booked an Avis minivan at a GREAT rate using the State of FL code. Can you tell me about this? Do you know if you have to present ID upon check-in or what this entails?

That contract ID charges .30 per mile on one way rentals with 0 miles included. You were fortunate they did not charge you the miles for the first leg. This ID and the car and driver ID both give great rates for one ways but do not include any miles.

I contacted them and they credited me the amount spent on milage. Sometimes you win!!

Congratulations! A lesson for all of us- it can never hurt to ask!

May I ask-- what was the reasoning? Was there supposed to be a mileage fee and they credited you due to aggravation for the broken part?

I asked something similar a while back, not too many responses. I've searched multiple message boards and only found one instance of being asked for proof. If you're trying to use a code for the State of Florida and have a driver's license from a different state, you may well be asked. Not sure if I read your situation correctly though.

I am reserved through National for an upcoming trip with a code that may or may not work, depends on whether they ask. If it's for a company, I suppose they could ask for a badge or something but they will either take my word for it or take a serious scalding from me. Dont bother me one bit after years of getting the hard sell on 9 different types of insurance. lol

I also have a backup with Budget.

Because they charged me for 600+ miles and my receipt only shows 200 miles driven (Austin to SA). They could not find the Dallas to Austin miles so deleted the charge. Sometimes you win

Hi,

We are coming from aussie land and looking for a car for 29 days.

We are not sure if we should get a medium car or an SUV for a couple traveling all of California in the winter ?

The thing I hate is when they say car hire is $1099 but then when you go to book it’s $1350 including takes.. arrhhh !! just give me a total..

All car hire quotes here are with no extra insurance as this is so confusing I’m not sure what I will do.

This is the best I can find any help would be great..

Dates: 12/23/09 - 01/21/10
Total days: = 29
Location: Los Angeles, International airport and return here.

Car Type: Standard SUV
Terms: Unlimited Mileage
I am a Hertz Gold member and get a corporate discount.
Hertz Price = $1350.85
Hotwire with Alamo = $ 1499.95
Avis = $ 1659.30

Is this a good price for the car with no insurance for this time of year and length of hire?

Travelingaussies-
You might want to check those dates in case anyone tries to run your numbers. Your return date of 11/4/09 can't be right no matter how you cut it

A "good price" can only be judged by what everyone else is charging at the same time. However, having said that, your price sounds quite fair for an SUV if that includes all your fees (probably works out to around 250/wk - not so bad nowadays, best we have seen in the past when prices were much lower was around 189). You may be able to do better for 29 days; however, in order to do so, it might require making multiple reservations; you'd have to run the numbers and decide if the time involved in returning/picking up was worth the $.

There's probably a $25 or $30 coupon floating around that might help a little.

What are you planning to do about insurance? Will your car/cc ins cover you? You don't want to drive all over CA for a month with none. It's been my understanding that some international codes include insurance and save you money in the long run. Have you looked into anything particular to residents of Australia? Often UK residents get great deals; do a quick google or check with your TA to see if any special deals apply in your case.

Hi Everyone-
I'm looking for some help.
The Grandfather is sick and we MUST get to FL to see him during this holiday, as it may be his last. Couldn't have come at a worse time financially though

We're looking to rent a car Standard, intermediate, or full size to drive from Chicago, IL to Orlando, FL ONE-WAY (we're flying back for $80). We would prefer to have it from 11/23-12/2 but could deal with 11/23-11/28 if it's a HUGE price difference.

I'm having such a hard time finding any deals for a one-way rental. They've all come out to $600 and over, which is NOT affordable for us, and for that price, we can fly there.

Any help would be GREAT! I can renew my AA membership if it would help, but I still have my card that says that I'm a valid member till next year. We're also mambers of Costco, and I can always buy an Entertainment book if that helps.
I need to book this ASAP, but my brain is starting to fry out from trying different coupon codes for hours.
Any help?
Thanks so much!

Moderator Comment: This new list for requests is a bit more tailored toward cars.

Before posting your request, make sure to check out the codes in this thread, especially the original post. Then, look over the last 5 or 6 pages for code updates. If you have done that and tried at least 3 codes and/or companies, you’re ready to post your request.

1) Title should start with the word "REQUEST" (e.g. "REQUEST – Car Rental at LAX")
2) Dates you plan to travel. Being as specific as possible is a must. If times can be a little flexible, please indicate that.
3) Departure and Destination.
4) What you have found so far in your own research. Please make sure to have tried at least 3 different codes and/or companies. Please supply the rates you received with each code and/or company (This prevents duplication of research and is a great way to inform the community of what is out there!) — Nov. 2, 2009 @ 3:18pm

REQUEST:
Dates: 11/20/2010-11/24/2010
Location: Orlando (MCO)
CAR TYPE: Intermediate of larger
Terms: Unlimited Mileage, Two married Adult Drivers

My luck so far:
Alamo
Contract ID# 7014644 and Coupon Code AF3527JDA = $105
Contract ID 430710 / COUP AF3527JDA - $105 (free addl driver)
Contract I.D. 7014927 (followed VISA coupon link posted by rangerxenos) = 133
National
Contract I.D. 5760339 Carlson Travel Coupon ID NF1731ODR = $148
Avis
AWD Number: X848306 Coupon Number: TUGB348 - $229 (-$44) = $185

I would go with the
430710/coupon, but I read on anothr deal site that MCO manager was denying the WalMart discount rate. Also, that coupon seems to be tied to the Dell perks. SO I might just go Dell and not let my wife drive.

Hope your grandfather gets better. It is wonderful you are going to see him! What you need to do first is instead of stating my brain is starting to fry from trying so many coupon codes for hours it to list three codes/coupons used, price found, rental car company, and size of the car. Since you tried so many listing three should be hard. This helps those who are willing to help from duplicating your efforts.

Good luck and we will wait for your updated post!

Riasq- Thanks so much for the advice, but my city wasn't listed there, and my dates of travel just BARELY missed the drive for $1 a day program from Thrifty. As it stands, I'm canceling my trip. Unfortunately, I have researched until I'm blue in the face, and there simply isn't anything out there. I wanted to thank everyone for their advice, and thanks to mom2boys for letting me in on the request protocol. I'll know better for next time. Hopefully my grandfather will be around till x-mas and I can see him then.
Thanks for all!

You've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? ...

Have a backup plan. Even if no one has ever been asked before, you could very well be first.

We need a rental in SLC from 12/18 to 12/23, just over 6 days.
We have not been able to find still Active NATIONAL rental code for our Holiday rental.

Q: are there some Codes for NATIONAL out there that we have overlooked?

Please help.

I presume you mean a Coupon code as opposed to a corporate one? How about the Entertainment book one? Their codes are good thru June. There's a free day one and a $20. But you may need to provide the coupon and or/Ent ID, possibly.
For some reason they do this every year. They usually wind up extending the current ones at the last minute. But if you wait too long, you could be SOL; don't wait to book! You can always cancel and rebook.
Must you have National? Dollar had some great SLC deals not too long ago with the SW code.
