UPDATED 3/13/11:Time for the annual update of codes. PLEASE if anyone has any information regarding codes (ie: some should be removed or added) please PM me.
Remember, no one here has a magic way of finding the best rate. So before posting a request for help, please do some research yourself. Once you do post, give as many details as possible, including: Pickup/return time and location and what you found so far. You can not expect other people to do all the work for you.
riaesq said: Always try LEGIT codes FIRST (that means, the ones you can qualify for) They often result in bottom-line totals as good as the ones you may not qualify for and will save possible headaches. And YES, SOMETIMES THEY DO ASK FOR PROOF. You'll just have to ask yourself if you feel lucky.
Also-- if insurance is included, that could be a major headache. Avoid those codes. You could wind up with a VERY costly rental if there is an issue. EXPECT THAT WHOMEVER IS INSURING THE CAR WILL CHECK TO SEE IF IT'S A QUALIFYING RENTAL, and ask yourself if it's worth it to save a coupla bucks. I personally know two people that thought they had insurance because the corporate account they were using included it, but when it came time to pay up, the rental agency verified that they were not employees and they had to pay the full value. The credit card company also refused to pay up.
Avis/Budget has changed the terms on a lot of their existing codes. Quite a few that used to give unlimited miles, now only give 125 miles a day. So double check before renting
Additional drivers: Most corporate accounts allow free additional drivers IF it is a business rental. If the additional driver does get into an accident there most probably will be an investigation before your insurance is willing to pay out. They will probably determine that the driver was unauthorized, and void your insurance, so be careful. It is usually safer to pay the fee to have the additional driver listed in the contract.
Safety of using corporate accounts: If you do use an account which you are not really eligible for, the best thing to do is claim it is a personal rental. MOST corporate contracts allow their employees to use the account for personal use. It is safer for you to claim personal use, that way in case of an accident, they will not get the account holder involved and thus potentially void your contract.
REMEMBER this was for a one-day rental for JFK, LAX and LAS of a FULL SIZE car.
The point of the matrix is to give you an approximation of which code is more likely to give a better rate REMEMBER
Some codes are going to be better in other locations, as well as if the rental is longer.
Thank you riaesq for providing the following: riaesq said: It is VERY important to note that these rates may not reflect any kind of current reality. EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON
TIMING- therefore, the older quotes may not be correct for an inquiry made today, and codes recently inserted may not
reflect any realistic differences as compared to older, no-longer-valid quotes. Hope that is somewhat clearer than mud
The same story from another angle-- at this very moment with NO code, you can get a Midsize SUV from JFK significantly
cheaper than a midsize car from National- and this is NOT the first time I have seen that (75$ vs $105, if anyone is
interested, pre-tax)- or similarly unexpected pricing structures. A premium could cost less than a compact. Again- it's all
timing, based on supply and demand at that moment.
Prices vary like crazy. It's important to keep checking. I saved a ton of $ by taking a peek at around 3 am and catching a
"blink and it's gone" rate.
If you have any updates, please post, and I will update the original post. Also, if anyone knows any particularities of a
code (waives underage fee, etc..) please post as well Thanks to all the posters until now who have given me the material to work with.
The quotes for Alamo, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National are including all taxes and fees, while the ones from Avis do
not. I currently have Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National. I will add other agencies as I do them.
Thank You to Sinoed for adding in the LAS prices.
THE COUPONS ARE LISTED IN THE QUICK SUMMARY, SO THAT EVERYONE CAN HELP AND KEEP IT UP TO DATE
How to ask for help. 1. Location 2. Type of Car 3. Date & Time 4. Attempts w/ 3 different companies. Please try using 3 different combinations of codes and coupons. Post the prices you've returned
Example: i booked for pickup at LAS Full Size, looking for a convertible upgrade 1/12 8a - 1/17 2p, my flight arrives at 9a and departs 2p

It would be great to have that post in the Quick Summary so that everyone can contribute to keeping the codes up to date. Too much for just one person. Thanks for the post OP.

One thing though: you may want to move the coupons to the Quick Summary so other users can add or update.

For the enterprise 20% off link (Link), it says "Print this coupon and present at branch." but then in the fine print it says "Original coupon must be redeemed at the time of rental..." Since this coupon is for Entertainment Book holders, does that mean they want this coupon AND a coupon from the book? I'm not a book holder, so I don't know if the Entertainment Book actually has an Enterprise coupon in it.
So I guess my question is, does the webpage print out serve as the "original coupon"?

Yes. There are lots of deals on the Entertainment book website. They are seperate from the book and that coupon will suffice.
Trying to reserve at national 2/1-2/7 in Bozeman, MT (going skiing). They aren't taking any coupons codes...says "station specific coupon blackout". This especially sucks since I checked a few months ago, before I was ready to book, and the rates were super cheap and they were taking my coupon codes. Now I'm paying $165 for a week with a compact...

Anyone able to find any decent one-way deals from PDX to SEA 1/9-1/16? I've been looking for days and days and can't escape the horrible drop-off fee. Thanks.

I did not check the rates, but I know the following codes should waive the underage fee, and should give unlimited mileage, I dont know which one will be the best in this situation though: HERTZ: 13000 American Bar Association Avis: G298100 Gevoha V125600 Ohio State University Enterprise: 01A8037 BETA GAMMA SIGMA N04075 Princeton University 23J2586 Stanford NA47008 University of Utah NA21UVA UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
I left the government codes, but if you want, look in the initial list and I mention whether they are supposed to waive the underage fee or not in the notes. If you find out any others that do, please let me know.
Wondering......I have an Alamo reservation.....which i scheduled to return at 4:00 pm......If I happen to pick the car up at 2:30ish,,,,will they let me slide the 1.5 hours???
I know when you return, they scan the car in, in order to generate the return slip, Is it the same process when you pick it up?
Or is it safer to just add another whole day to the existing reservation?

I've already used it once successfully and it seems to expire at the end of June 2008?
Just wondering in case an Alamo agent ever asked. Do you need to be a member or part of an association to use this coupon?
Thx
Coupon Code AD395OL2VN is for $15 off a weekend and good until 6/30/08. On your confirmation email it says something about being an Internet coupon - you do not need a copy.
I too have been playing for a while with codes on dozens of websites to try and get a good deal on a rental in MIA in July. I thought I could try to ask you guys who have a deeper knowledge at this "game".
My request;
1. MIA - Miami International Airport - pick up and drop off the same 2. Full Size 3. 7/10-8/5 (6:30pm - 5pm), 26 days 4. Unlimited Mileage 5. 1 driver only, over 25 (option of an additional driver over 25 (spouse) could be useful but not necessary) 6. I am a foreign national (from France), and will be in possession of a return plane ticket... which could be relevant for the rate 7. Member of Frequent Flyer programms AAdvantage and IberiaPlus and also a Hertz #1 Gold member
Best deals so far (including all taxes and fees and all converted into USD for clarity):
Alamo on alamo.fr: 987 USD w/ 3 additional drivers - pay on arrival
Thrifty on thrifty.fr: 940 USD prepay
Hertz on hertz.co.uk: 860 USD prepay using AAdvantage CDP: 217692 (gave 10% discount)
As I'm not a US resident all these quotes include LDW and SLI.
I do not want to use a code I'm not allowed to use, but I've searched the UK site for hertz as there is NO mention in the T&C that you must be a resident of the UK to book ... it's just that the country in the billing address is UK .. and I can link the booking to my Gold account which states France as my residency !
What are my options from there, should I wait until closer to the date for rates to go down ? Should I try to bid on Priceline ?
