Just as the title says, the people who know about the Emerald club program should get the free upgrade ASAP. It works both for existing and new members.

So how do we rent cars thru the Executive Aisle exactly?
Do I book a fullsize car, but get upgraded to premium, while only paying a midsize rate? I'm quite confused.
And can we use any coupon codes with Executive rentals? It seems all the coupon codes require other contract codes.Look at the National website. It's all there.

I beg to differ, it was not all there. Would it take any skin off your teeth to provide an iota of helpful information?
All it says is to make a reservation between intermediate and full-size, go to the Executive Aisle, and pick a car.
What it doesn't say is that if you make a reservation for full-size, you pay the mid-size rate, while given access to premium class vehicles. Would you have to pay extra for a luxury car or SUV if it were in the Executive Aisle? Some say yes, in the FT forum.
Here's a good summary from martinp, from flyertalk forum.
Emerald Aisle: book midsize rate, pick anything off EA, pay midsize rate.
Exec: book fullsize rate, pick anything off EA/Exec, pay midsize rate.
The "pay midsize rate" numbers are the same, but you get a bigger selection for a bigger/nicer car.

I had the same question as you did and I found the answer with no problem.
Sorry my help wasn't good enough for you.
I guess I should have brought you a cocktail so you could relax while you waited for others to do the search that was too much trouble for you to do.

No, by all means, just go ahead and leech off the forum without providing anything helpful in return. Your 52 posts have been of splendid help.
I wonder how you consider that "help". If you had provided a link, or a specific section of the National website to search, that might have been helpful.

You take the award for lazy, unappreciative, and nasty!!!
Sorry the help I provided wasn't good enough, your highness.
All you had to do is research the Emerald Aisle provisions of the National website.
I didn't realize that you demand to be spoonfed with a direct link.
Why don't you try contributing something to the board instead of being so nasty?????

I have seen the extent of your contributions on Travel Deals, you have not contributed any useful info or any deals yourself and you have been a member for over 5 years, and then you want to quote a summery from FT while insulting a member here for giving info.I would have given the same answer as it takes about 30 seconds to find it.Or perhaps you should just switch over to FT if you find them more helpful.Have a nice day.

WOW! I read thru the exchange between you and Minyan who seems to be rather new and trying to help. An answer to your question might be found by calling National and asking them directly instead of relying on posts here if you are unable to find the info where Minyan told you. It is unreasonable to expect someone to link for you. You should be able to search using the info provided. If not, just call them and ask.
Minya- please don't get discouraged when some of us get grumpy! (We are all guilty of it and I will be the first in line!!)

Really, and what contributions have you made to Travel Deals? What helpful posts have you made in Hot Deals?
I wouldn't call "It's on the National website" giving info.

Let us know what you find out!
I would call National, but it's generally faster and more efficient to glean information from other members who have more knowledge than I do on the matter, hence my question. Look at every single thread in Hot Deals or Travel Deals, or anything else. It's full of posts of people asking questions and seeking answers. Are they stupid questions? Perhaps sometimes. Are they obvious questions? Perhaps, yes as well, but it's in the spirit of the forum to share information with fellow FWers. Have I answered a hundred stupid repetitive questions from noobs asking what extra care bucks are? yes, but I don't go around negging their posts. And please note that Minyan negged my original question post even before I replied. You knew the answer, why not share it?
Of course I'm going to get angry if Minyan says, "It's on the National website". If M knows, then why not share some information in the spirit of FW? I already checked the National website prior to asking my question, and watched both EA and ES intro videos, and didn't find them particularly helpful. Now I'm going to be renting from National in the next month, and I will be happy to share my experiences with my fellow FWers, if asked.

You should bear in mind that Executive status doesn't actually last until 2037, as that refers to the base Emerald Aisle status. ES only lasts until Feb. 2010. You receive ES for the calendar year in which you enrolled + 14 months.
Op here. I am glad this has been working out for so many people. Just as a simple explanation for everyone about the executive status and this is from past experience being a Emerald Club and Executive member for a long time.
Book full size, you will get charged the mid size rate and you pick any class vehicle from the Emerald club or executive aisle. The rate on the booking page will be different for mid-size and full size but when the booking is confirmed it will be mid-size rate only for full size booking.
At the minimum you get a free upgrade with the Executive status every time in addition to the discount codes and coupons that you use for the booking. In the best scenario you can get a luxury car, SUV or mini-van from the executive aisle if/when they are available.
I think this is the best car rental program out there.

Glad the bickering has slowed down.
It's actually not as straightforward as on the National site. Executive typically works that you pay for midsize when you get a full,or technically you pay for one class below what you actually rent, but frequently there are many other classes of cars on the Executive aisle, like full size SUVs, luxury cars, etc. When you book a midsize and take a full you'll definitely get the midsize rate, and many times, when I've had a midsize reserved, I've taken anything there, eg Toyota Highlander, Toyota Avalon, Cadillac DTS and they still give me the midsize rate. Once, when I didn't check my exit statement, they billed me the full size rate when I took a luxury, so there is a bit of YMMV, but if you're persuasive enough, as most of us FW are, I think most of the time you can take anything and pay the midsize rate. All my experience is from LAX and SFO, other places may be different.

For those of you collect points, you can get 2000 aeroplan (star alliance) first by using the following link:
Then use OP's link to get yourself into Executive! Enjoy.

Slightly incorrect, but National's terminology is a bit confusing and doesn't really help.
Executive Status: Book full size, pay mid-size, pick a vehicle from Executive Selection (ES) or Emerald Aisle (EA).
Emerald Club Status: Book mid-size, pay mid-size, pick a vehicle from Emerald Aisle (EA).
Did anyone notice that we will get charged an additonal .50/day to get mileage credit for certain mileage plans (i.e. Continental and United)? I don't believe that was there before.

I upgraded over a month ago and have not received my new card. I leave on vacation in three weeks and want to make sure I will not be hassled while exiting...
I contacted Emerald and they said it should only take 2-4 weeks to receive my new card and my benefits are already in place, not to worry but I just want to not take any chances...

Just out of curiosity how long did it take?

Less than 2 weeks, I can't remember the actual date I submitted my info. (And it doesn't make much of a time difference for delivery, but I am in Canada, so it should be a little quicker in the US)
Now, if I could only get a good rate with national. Was looking for a car in LAX July 27th - August 3rd(a week) and best I could get so far is $450 , hopefully prices will go down!
