I don't need a rent a car. Are there any really cheap rental deals to get these miles. Enterprise use to have a $19.99 weekend price on a compact.

alert mods

Is booking a flight thru Delta a pre-requisite to get these 9,999 miles? The rules are no clear on this. If so, this deal is not that hot.

Rental car deals starting 60 and 65 dollars for Budget and Avis(charlotte), cheapest I saw so far, Big cities like Chicago etc, 80 and 85 bucks a day rentals. I think i will pass.

Yes, must book through Delta, and yes, it's higher priced than what can be found at other sites.

Weekend rates are much cheaper in general. In Dallas, compacts are $32/day including tax, or $33 for a mid-size. That works out to .003 cents/mile, which is pretty good.

Or put another way, spend $100 on car rentals (do 3 consecutive 1 day rentals if you want) and get enough for a US round trip coach ticket.

cheapest car at sjc for this and next wknd is $42 a day

$24 a day here in Des Moines, IA on a Sat-Sunday. Booked 3 weekend days at that price. Good to get 30K miles at less than $75!!

Waiting for the next thread where people start complaining how they can't use the miles to get free tickets...

it seems as if this is 9999 miles per rental not per day
so you need to make 3 separate rentals 1 day each as opposed to 1 rental consisting of 3 consecutive days.

This seems really hot. I can find a compact car in SEA for 29/day. Three seperate days will end up costing me ~$100.00 total. How are people not jumping on this? Are Delta miles impossible to redeem for an award ticket?

$99 day for compact in san Fransisco

alert mods

Think I'll jump on this...only problem is that I'm under 25. You think they'll make me pay the underage fee if I don't even take the car? Only one way to find out...

I believe the key word is qualifying rental. It has to be defined properly. As FW member, i would say it is just renting cars thru Delta website. As a Delta rep, i could say it is booking a flight and a corresponding rental car.

Hmmm...

Are Delta miles impossible to redeem for an award ticket? Not impossible but harder - my experience has been that for the past 2 years frequent flier miles in general have been harder to redeem. Also, as of 6/30/08 or shortly before, "... American, US Airways, and Delta are now charging to cash in your frequent flyer miles, and it's almost certain that others will follow, and that these fees will become a permanent fixture. On Delta, you'll pay $25 now for domestic frequent flyer tickets and $50 for international. ..." This changes the equation somewhat for all these bonus frequent flier mile offers,

I can book for $29 / day. I really am just not sure if this is worth it. I hate dealing with trying to book flights with miles. It never works for me - I know I'm prob. just stupid but for some reason they just feel like those "companion" tickets.

I have redeemed other awards similar to this for giftcards etc...any way to do that with Delta skymiles? it looks like they only talk about 25k points for a ticket on the site.

I have only one experience with cashing in some Skymiles, but they seemed to be pretty flexible. I just booked a trip only 2 1/2 weeks ago for travel on Thurs. I was able to get 2 setas in FC for the 1st segment (ATL-BOS), and coach on the return, for only 37.5k/pp. Not too bad for a semi-last minute award reservation, IMHO. I am definitely willing to plunk down $100 for approximately 30k miles. Really less than that b/c I already had a 5 day reservation for this weekend that someone else is paying for; was able to book 2 one-way rentals through the Delta site for only $40 more than my other reservation; $40 more for 20k SkyMiles, and I don't have to pay parking at the airport while I'm gone! I'll grab another cheapy 1 day rental next weekend for around $30, to get the whole 3x bonus. If nothing else, I'll convert them over to 60k HHonors points; not a bad deal at all...

Weekend days are $24 ($27) each at BUR for the next three weekends on Budget (Avis)... so I'm in for the next three Saturdays; however, I've been trying to get Delta to confirm that a flight is not needed as was posted on the other sites-- and I'm having a really hard time getting an agent to do anything besides recite verbatim what is given on the website. I did get them to confirm that BUR participates in the miles program though they couldn't say if it was participating in this promotion (If you read the terms, it also states "participating Budget (Avis) airport locations only")

I have a feeling with as sloppily as this promotion was put together, there is going to be a lot of hassle involved to get these miles to actually post!

alert mods

Delta has started charging $75 extra to book the reward ticket . With overpriced rental and extra fees it's not worth to get the miles in high priced rental area ( e.g san diego one day small car rental is $88 ) .
