Totally free Weekend Day From Hertz - No Minimum rental requirements - Pay just taxes.
Found this in the coupon section at Hertz.com. They're giving away a free weekend day, once a month until the end of March. No minimum keep so rent a car for a day and just pay the taxes and fees. As usual, NYC is excluded, as is Florida and Hawaii. Searched and didn't find this previously posted. Make sure you use PC # 127595 when making the reservation. I got Impala for 4.94 each month with UNLIMITED MILEAGE. With gas prices at an all time low YOHOOO...
Here's a holiday present you can enjoy all winter, with no minimum rental days required.
Now through March 31, 2009, you can enjoy one free weekend day, when PC#127595 is included in your reservation of Economy through Full-size class cars. Only one redemption per month is permitted.
Terms and Conditions: Advance reservations required. Blackouts may apply. Subject to availability, this offer is redeemable at participating Hertz locations in the U.S. (excluding , NY Metro area, Florida and Hawaii). This offer applies to minimum one day weekend rental (weekend defined as pick-up noon Thursday through Noon Sunday), has no cash value, may not be used with Tour Rates or Insurance Replacement Rates and cannot be combined with any other certificate, voucher, offer or promotion. The Free Day value applies to weekend rental time and mileage charges of economy through full-size class vehicles. Hertz age, driver, credit and weekend rate qualifications for the renting location apply and the car must be returned to that location. Taxes, tax reimbursement, age differential charges, upsell charges, fees and optional service charges, such as refueling, are not included. Discounts apply to time and mileage charges only. One redemption per customer per month. Offer valid for vehicle pickup through 3-31-09.
Just booked 2 weekend days using above link and total for each came to $7.50 with taxes. This is insane. I think you're limited to driving to yours and adjacent states, but since Texas is 25% larger than France this isn't a big constraint for me.
Wonderful - I've made reservations for four months. Total on free day is $4.70 each time. This is a fun way to drive a different car some weekends. For January, I actually needed a two day rental and this allowed one of those days to be free. Thanks, OP! Hope the FW affect doesn't kill this too quickly
PS - Sometimes when I linked from the offer page, the PC# was filled in and sometimes not. I just entered the PC# on the Hertz reservation page and it always worked fine.

I'm having the same problem. Doesn't tell you *what* the missing requirement is. Maybe it is not valid in our locations. Wish they'd have the courtesy to tell you.
EDIT: Changed the location to a nearby city and voila, it works. Guess my city is blacked out.
Renting Sunday through Tuesday, it may be cheaper to use PC 104182. Using 127595 I was quoted $154.13 which included $36.49 for a free day, but then they charged me $107.99 for an "extra day". Using 104182, the entire booking came down to $47.18.
• Advance reservations are required, as blackout periods may apply. • Subject to availability, this offer is redeemable at participating Hertz airport locations in U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, excluding Hawaii. • Airport offer applies to Standard and Leisure Weekend rentals and requires a 2-day minimum keep. • This offer has no cash value, may not be used with Tour Rates or Insurance Replacement Rates and cannot be combined with any other certificate, voucher, offer or promotion. • Hertz age, driver, credit and weekend rate qualifications for the renting location apply and the car must be returned to that location. • Taxes, tax reimbursement, age differential charges, fees and optional service charges, such as refueling, are not included. • Discounts apply to time and mileage charges only. • Offer valid for vehicle pickup through 03/31/09.
I couldn't get this coupon to work for me in NJ. Trying to book just a few days this week starting today. NJ is not excluded, but it does say "participating Hertz airport locations" so I guess the one I picked is not participating....

anyone find one in jersey city or surrounding areas
Just picked up the car today in Pittsburgh. Agent asked where I found the rate and I told her. She was amazed and had to tell her co-workers. Said it was the first time they've seen it. I reserved for $10 and the contract says the total will be $5.
Best part is that the location was sold out and were turning away people with no reservations. Well best part for me. I'm not sure why you'd give away free cars when you have such low inventory. I dumped Hertz after 9 straight years last year (now with National which I like a lot better) but can't beat this deal. Thanks OP!
shank said: While Hertz is offering some great deals, keep in mind that things changed when a private equity group bought the company from Ford in 2005. If you read through various FW threads and online posts, you will find all kinds of horror stories of excessive fees for minor dings, excessive dirt in the vehicle, and issues that are considered normal use by most other car companies. They will also try to upsell, nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING IMAGINABLE at the time of rental. We took a trip to the tampa area a few weeks back, and ended up renting a car on Priceline (name your own price), and ended wup woth Hertz. We ordered a midsize, the agent claimed that all they had was a Honda Civic in that class, and since I am tall (6'2"), she would "ONLY" charge me another $10 per day for a Chevy Malibu - when I was only paying $13 per day for the midsize. After some haggling, they "found" a Mazda 6 on another lot, but we would have to wait another 30 minutes. Even though we are AAA members, entitling us to a free second driver, they also wanted $10 per day to add a second driver, as it was a Priceline rental. The agent also warned me that they charge 3x the local rate to refill gas (~$7.50 per gallon, when the local price was ~$2.60), and was offering a "special deal" of $2.44 per gallon for the first full tank of gas (how do you return a car with an empty tank). When the car FINALLY arrived (45 minutes later), the agent asked me to sign a form noting multiple scratches and dings on the vehicle. I asked if it would be possible to first insepct the vehicle myself, add any missing notations, and was able to leave without returning the form...
In other words, unless you are an extremely careful driver, plan to avoid parking lots, beaches, kids during your rental, it may be better to avoid such "deals" that end up costing MUCH MORE in the end.I am Hertz Gold and have been for 10+ years. Have had no problems with Hertz AT ALL. Nothing has changed for me in my rental experiences with them on any of my rentals over the last few years. Hertz does not check their vehicles over with a fine tooth comb like other car rental agencies in my view. No upsells, no gas scams. Hertz isn't Alamo, Thrifty or Dollar. Still, I will look any vehicle over and have noted any ding or paint chip.
I just rented in Phoenix weekend before last and everything went as smoothly as normal.
