Best site around once you figure out how to navigate thru it

WORD. I love that site. Saved me many $$$$$$$s.

I do have to agree, the mod there (Sheryl) can be pretty mean at times.

Agree the site is good but not a fan of the mod. I read through the whole set of rules and winning bids from other posts. Finally made a bid on my own, didn't ask for help. Posted my win to help others and I got banned. I think I got banned because I didn't use her links to book my travel. Didn't make sense when I can get Cash Back from FW and
I've posted a few wins w/o using the affiliate link that the mod over there pushes. I was never banned.

Now that you have bragged about it and shamed Sheryl, you will be banned.

TIA.

While there are NO guarantees, I have always received two beds when I have asked for them.

I have only ever had one problem. I've always call and check up on the situation with the hotel and ask for a preference. Then I check whether it is preference or if it is guaranteed. Once with the Drake, they guaranteed it was two beds so we had two more people join us rather than getting them a room. We show up to the Drake and they say that their "lowest" Priceline room is a king bed, not two queens/doubles. In the end, their night manager fixed things but it was a rough couple of discussions with their staff.

Every other time, I've requested specific types and they were able to accommodate. Never count on that though, could all be luck.

At least at most properties, no matter how you book a room the number of beds and/or smoking/non-smoking is never guaranteed. Rather, it is merely a request. What is guaranteed is that a room will be available. Generally, you end up with the room type you want.

Just wondering if anyone has bid the same amount for consecutive days or weeks and finally got it accepted on Priceline. I looked up on both better bidding and bidding for travel and found a hotel goingn for around $75-80. I person even posted that they received a price of $77 for the days I will be in the city. I have tried from 75 to 80 going up a dollar each day, but it still isn't accepted. Seeing that many people have posted and not paid more than $80, I don't want to pay more than $80. I'm just wondering if I keep bidding for $80 if they will finally accept it. This is for travel in October, so I have time to bid.

Also, once I posted my winning bid on better bidding for which I didn't use their link because I couldn't find it (ok, I didn't really look that hard and didn't know I was supposed to). The moderator sent me an email telling me that I should use their link. I guess both of the owners get mad for not using their links.

No one can predict inventory and price for the hotel where you want to stay. All you can do is keep trying. If you post your situation on either of the forums you mentioned, perhaps they can give you a more specific strategy, such as when you should give up and revert to a backup plan. What I will suggest is to decide (now) if there are any other zones with hotels that you are willing to stay at (as a backup plan). If not, I would make a reservation at the hotel you want via a method tha can be cancelled without penalty before your travel dates.

Also, just because someone reported winning a particular hotel on particular dates does not mean that you will get that specific hotel on those dates. Even it is has been months since someone has reported winning a difference hotel within your desired zone and star level, there is no guarantee. If you want to stay at this hotel and no other, then bidding on Priceline is not for you.

Now I'm 3 for 3. Just won a hotel and posted my results without using their affiliate link. And still I have no been banned. Their references to the affiliate are so obscure, I (legitimately) simply forget to use their link before bidding.

Regardless, there, like here, it is the user-created content that makes their site useful. Banning users that post legitimate information for no other reason than not using an affilate link is counter-productive. For those that have been banned, clearly there is more to their stories.

"clearly" might be a little strong; the brownshirts have been lax as of late, perhaps having read the writing on the proverbial ban wall. (or you simply flew under the radar until we show Sheryl your post!)
