If you pick up the car at the Airport and book for Week End then Hertz has 50% off price. I did check others and this come out as cheap. Hertz Major Airports are included. Offer good until 6/30/09.
Edit.. NM I am booking Thursday through Mon and it says the promo terms have not been met. So am I supposed to book a whole week or just the weekend??I dont understand...
Edit..again... So I need a CDP that works with this. Any ideas? I will just try random ones from the Matrix unless someone has one that works best.

If you have a CDP that provides benefits, you will receive them.

I have booked the car on Thursday 6/4 and returning on Tuesday 6/9 and get 50% off. It has to be from Airport. So soon...expires..well you have until 6/30/09 and so many people can take advantage during these two months. So why give red when you have two months to take advantage?
This deal MUST be from an airport in order to qualify. Going to vegas this weekend and thought I'd give Hertz a try but Enterprise is still cheaper with their 50% off weekend deal.
Enterprise is tough to beat.

Normally, I would say they'll kill the promo for the rest of the summer but considering the economy, if travel bookings for summer don't pick up soon, I'll bet they will continue it all summer. Just keep checking.

Does this apply to NYC metro airports? I have tried the booking and don't get the discount. Hertz advertised in the N.Y. Times and the exclusion statement says not available in Hawaii and P.Rico. Funny that it does not seem to exist in N.Y.
• Advance reservations are required, as blackout periods may apply. • Subject to availability, this offer is redeemable at participating Hertz airport locations in U.S. and Puerto Rico, excluding Hawaii. • Airport offer applies to Standard and Leisure Weekend rentals and requires a 2-day minimum keep. • This offer has no cash value, may not be used with Tour Rates or Insurance Replacement Rates and cannot be combined with any other certificate, voucher, offer or promotion. • Hertz age, driver, credit and weekend rate qualifications for the renting location apply and the car must be returned to that location. • Taxes, tax reimbursement, age differential charges, fees and optional service charges, such as refueling, are not included. • Discounts apply to time and mileage charges only. • Offer valid for vehicle pickup through 06/30/09.
It's that line about participating locations.... and I suspect NYC rarely participates in promos.

To this point, the best I have been able to do is a compact at Alamo for $180, which is about the cost of the two tickets to get MDW-OMA.
Thanks for the post.
did you try EWEB with National? how about AMEX code/possible AMEX $20 coupon/ free weekend day coupon?
"Due to bundled rate advertising restrictions, these rates are not available in CA, HI, NV, NY and the New York Metro Area. However, comparable rates - plus taxes and additional fees - are available in the just listed states." Their definition of "comparable" rate is rather different from mine.
Don't qualify for the $18.99/day weekend rate either: "DISTANCE BETWEEN LOCATIONS EXCEEDS MAX NUMBER OF MILES PER DAY."
Car rental prices are always in flux, depending on demand in a given location. As a general rule, the closer you get to your travel date, the more likely you might see rental car prices decline, especially during periods of low rental demand. Book a reservation, and then keep checking back durings the weeks prior to your travel. You may find cheaper rates available, enabling you to cancel the higher cost reservation.
You have to be careful about what is considered a weekend. For some rental car companies, weekends start after noon on Thursday, so a rental that is booked to start at 11 AM on Thursday can be much more expensive than a rental that commences at 12:30 PM. Also, watch out for rentals lasting 5 days, as this qualifies you for a "weekly" rate in the computerized reservation system. The weekly rate may or may not be less expensive than the daily rate, especially since the weekly rate (based on 7 days) will be paid for a vehicle you use for only 5 days.
Car rental companies are hurting with the slowdown in travel, the credit crunch, and the general problems of the auto industry. They are less interested in expanding market share through marketing promotions that cut their margins (discounts) than simply saving their companies from bankruptcy. On the other hand, they don't want idle vehicles that generate no revenue, so last-minute discounting can work to your advantage.

50% off is for WEEKEND rentals only. that's why your dates don't work. Just booked at BOS for memorial day weekend: pick up on 5/22 at 2p.m, drop off 5/25 at 11:45p.m. All-in price: $95.54 (for intermediate car).
The link is: here. It has been extended to September 30, 2009.
The PC is 104182. It appears to work Friday through Sunday. I just tried it on 6/5-6/7 @ BWI as a test and it worked for me. Two days at $31.49 / day, total with taxes, etc. = $51.52 for a midsized car.
You can click on the "Quote it" link on the page or just put it in under PC. The Car & Driver CDP worked with it, but gave me a higher daily rate.

Thanks worked for me at SNA for memorial day weekend
pdx 6/21-6/22 doesn't work. PDX has already been reported as not working but was curious to see if the deal may be specific to the dates as well. perhaps not?
BMF said: OP, you rock!! Just booked two different rentals and save $10 on each on an already cheap fare. The coupon should get you 50% off, not $10 off. Did it accept the coupon? When I tried I got an error in red at the top of the page but also got green "Save $10.xx" above the Pay Now button for each car. If you scrolled down too quickly you may have missed the error code at the top of the page .....
