happygrad said: Hi Patelbhai, We have travel plans for my wife and son (2.5 yrs old) for Mid March - Mid May starting from EWR -N Delhi- EWR . And I would like to join them in mid April and come back in May with them. I am getting a quote of about 1250 from my travel agent - do you think I should book or wait for a while or book it right now. Also is there a way that I could book one of the tickets based on reward points and rest without them when I book though an agent - my agent says that cannot be done but did not quite understand the reasoning. Please guide regarding this. Thanks a lot..jai swaminarayan ! You can book either wife ticket or your ticket on reward point and then remining ticket can be book with agent (even single child or infant ticket). Just hold the matching flight itinerary and finish both side transaction on same day.
Planning to send my Family in MAY End and return around 20th AUG Myself go in July around 20th and come back with Family around AUG 20.
Going from WASHINGTON DC - MUMBAI..
1. What is the best time to buy... Is it not or should I wait? 2. What Price Ranges should be a good deal?
Currently for Family I see tickets from WAS-BOM for $12XX but for Myself from WAS-BOM for JULY-AUG coming way expensive around $15XX.Any Suggestions???TIAPrice which you are getting for May end for $12xx is good to jump as now it's time to proceed for May end to June first week travel. For July 20, $15xx I feel price is higher but once you jump for your family ticket, you have to make sure you get return ticket in same flight, so it will required you to jump little early as returning in August considered High season.
Hi Patel, I am planning to go to India with my family and looking the tickets around July and August with 3 weeks stay. It is from BOS to MAA.
Right now I am seeing price around $1470 with one stop and decent layover in AA. Is it right time to buy? or if I wait by any chance the price will go down?
Patelbhai, I am looking to travel in mid April April from MEM to MUM and return in May end. Compared to March month fares ($1150 on Continental or Delta), all fares in April onwards show approx $1400+... we spoke about this some days ago that the fares showing till 29th March are specials and to be issued till 8/9th Feb (subject to availability). But the airlines havent released "special" fares yet for April month onwards. These $1400+ fares as regular fares..Can you comment when April specials will open up ? Thanks for the great service and information you are sharing with FW community.

I have definite travel plans in Nov-Dec 2012 (EWR-AMD-EWR). I know the travel dates are still very far. I was just browsing thru the fares and see that Jet Airways gives 1202$ incl. of taxes. (Nov 15 - Dec 21). Would you consider this a great deal ? If not now, when would be best time to fish for a deal ? Your guidance is appreciated.
jai swaminarayan !Yes, $1202 considered good price for Mid November. but For Ahmedabad, I will not jump on Jet Airways because, (1) Customs in Mumbai (2) Hassel in Airport change in Mumbai in Bus - For years you will be keep hearing that back home now everything has changed with good progress but after long years when you return to our country, this is first experience, reminds you where do we stand yet. From International Airport, when coach-bus staffs loads luggage, guy asking $$ just to put bag in bus's lugguage compartment, and slowly moving bus on long curved road with CRF Security and junk-yard areas on road fense, reminded me scenes from slum-dog millionair movie (3) Overnight stay in Mumbai to catch morning flight to Ahmedabad. This is all three reason why Air-India is charging little more for EWR to AMD since last 6 months. Plus, November month is 10 month away, I would not take risk to buy ticket too early and then if plan get change, then ending up paying change penalty or cancellation penalty, which can wipe-out all savings for booking early.
Patelbhai, thanks for your inputs. I think I will wait for now.
I am getting SEA-DEL-SEA on Emirates for $1300 for dates 3/9 to 4/7. Is this a good price? Or should I wait more. I was hoping to get arounf 11xx range as for fare the same airline and same date to Mumbai is $1075.

Orbitz is giving me an itinerary from CVG to MAA with a transfer in ORD. AA from CVG to ORD and Etihad from ORD.Thanks.As of current, for Chicago Airport, Domestic to International flight connection, minimum requirement is 1 hour and 15 min. so you are good to go..

I think you are wrong here .
Etihad Airways and American_Airlines Code share: On flights operated by American_Airlines carrying four digit Etihad flight numbers, please note that a fee of US $50 or more will be collected for your second bagLiverpool, No I am not wrong anywhere.
FYI: If I reply or post something here, I only do, If I know what I am talking and I only do, once I verify and have back-up to support my statement.
Between Chicago and Aub-dhabi AA6007 (and same way New York and Abu-dhabi AA6005), American_Airlines using (physically) Etihad Airlines flight, called "code-share". What Etihad Airlines saying on their website is, when ticket is issued on American_Airlines stock/account, then Chicago to Abudhabi flight number will be AA-6007 so in that case, when you go personally to Etihad Airlines counter for Check-in, they will allow only 1 check-in bag for free, because Your ticket is issued on American_Airlines account and American_Airlines international lugguage allowance is for one bag. So, that's why Etihad Airlines has wrote on their website that, when you are usuing American_Airlines codeshare flight they will charge $50 for 2nd bag check-in. When same physical flight (EY-150) and same itinerary ticket issued on Etihad Airlines account, then Etihad Airlines policy applies and they have and they will allow 2 bags for Free.
I hope, this techincal insight will clear your doubt.
In my experience, although ticket was booked on AA and the physical flight was Etihad from ORD, AA allowed me to check in 2 bags free at LEX (connecting flight from LEX-ORD was AA). All they had to say was "whatever physical airline flies trans-atlantic, their baggage policy will apply". maybe this is YMMV depending on the airport and AA staff there..
on the way back from BLR, the etihad staff tells me that they can check-in 2 bags free upto ORD (as they fly upto ORD) and at ORD I had to recheck-in with AA (they allowed 2 free bags upto LEX)..
As i said, thankfully i didnt have to pay fee on 2nd bag anywhere, but this could be highly YMMV
all this is after it was clearly printed on the e-ticket that 1 bag would be allowed (for all segments)

Plus, one more thing Sriram22, your experience was at Lexingotn Airport with American counter staff. In my above response, I said, "When you go personally to Etihad Airlines counter for Check-in", because 2nd bag charge has mentioned on Etihad Airlins website for American Airlines codeshare flight, and if you do check-in with Etihad Airlines for AA codeshare flight, then they get chance to make $50 for 2nd bag, which Etihad Airlines, do not have to pay to American Airlines internally as they own fleet, so if counter staff is not co-operative then they will not loose a chance to make $50 for Etihad Airlines account.

...and now i am preparing for another travel in summer to india .. it would be etihad or Emirates, unless they ask for my arm or leg -- citicard with $500 CashBack on travel, here i come..
and by the way, etihad seats are pretty good - they are not 'cup'-like, they are flat. meaning, one can sleep on all the three seats as on a mattress, if the row is empty without having the body getting into the 'curved' seats. maybe thats the norm with newer airplanes/airlines..
Hello, I have a question regarding luggage restrictions on domestic flights in India. There the airlines only give baggage allowance of 20 kg. I am going from Bombay to Indore. Which airline would work for me. Kingfisher used to fly on that route, but not any more. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Lufthansa now 2 bags for all airports in India FYI: Recently, Lufthansa had made promotion where they had started to allow 2 bags for certain airports in India (excluding DEL/BOM). Now, Lufthansa has restored 2 bag policy for all airports in India (including DEL/BOM). Please note that, this policy is for pure Lufthansa flight travel only, it means, if you are starting journey from domestic USA airport where you are catching United flight to go to Lufthansa Gateway, then United MAY NOT respect Lufthansa policy. United is very bad on luggage.

Thanks for your reply. Air India also gives baggage allowance of 25 Kg. only per passenger. I will be traveling from US to India on Lufthansa through a United ticket. I will have two pieces of luggage with me. Extra baggage fee will be equal to the cost of the ticket.
Patel Sir, I'm traveling from ORD -> HYD on April 18, returning on May 02. I need your advise on two things basically: 1. Online search shows the most economical fare with Etihad Airways at $1201. Shall I jump on this fare or will buying the same ticket from Agent be cheaper? 2. Also, on return journey, my parents may join me from HYD to ORD. They may stay from May 02 onwards for 4-5 months returning in End of Aug or Sep '12. Will it be good to purchase their ticket in USA as well, along with mine, or just let them buy their tickets in India. Much appreciate your advise on this. Thanks much in advance!

Thanks much in advance! You can buy either from Agent or online, if ticket price is same or less with agent, then it's better to go thru agent as agent has more control on reservation then what you get directly. Same, you can apply for your parents ticket, for Etihad tickets prices are not much difference in USA or in India. In that case, you can buy same ticket in USA also, which gives easy handle on reservation.
I dont know If it is right thread!!!!!!!!!!! My wife is planning to travel with 2 kids (3yr n 1yr old)in march 1st week. So we are looking for direct flight to India (Delhi). I see two options air india and continental, never had experience with them, which is better as wife will be alone with 2 kids. Also with airindia, do we need to book through an agent or through theri website is safe enough If in future we have any inquiry (missing bag, refund etc.). She will fly from boise so with continental total is $2670 including infant fare. With airindia from their website, From chicago to del is $2600 including infant plus we need to buy additinal ticket from Boise to chicago. Please advise. Thanks in Advance.
Hi Patelbhai, Quick question for you - I'm planning to send my son (who is 13 years old) back home during summer break. We are looking tentative dates of July 15th to August 20th from NY to Ahemdabad. What will be good time to book tickets ? At present I checked and everything is showing in range of $1450. He will be travelling on his own so we want to see if we can do least amount of stops. We have relatives in Bombay too so if you think going EWR to Mumbai in one shot would be better idea instead of Ahemdabad please let us know. jsk -mj

At this moment, Air-India is out of scope for Boise. Because, Valid routing for Air-India for Boise is via New York and for Boise they have only partnership with Delta. Now, there is no (direct) Delta_ flight connection from Boise to either New York or Newark, plus all one stop connections are reaching to NYC after Air-India flight leaves. Via Chicago is not valid routing for Air-India, and if something is not working straight forward then I will not recommend you to Tweak it like I do not recommend to buy separate ticket to Chicago and then catch Chicago to India in Air-India. so for you, if Continental works as per your requirement then I will suggest to go with Continental. Buying Continental ticket from agent will get you cheaper price compare to buying from them directly.

Air-India has good system for it. So, I recommend to go up to Ahmadabad in Air-India instead of Mumbai. For Mumbai, you can use other airlines like Continental but as per last I know, they charges $75 for it. So Air-India is best in that case. You can send without fear, they will help to make flight change in Mumbai (to Ahmedabad) and same on return. Pl. follow proper procedure for this service.
Actually I have heard about bad repo about continental flight specifically new delhi like staff is not cooperative etc., thats why I tried to opt for Airindia, you said you do not recommend buying separate tickets from boise to chicago n then to India. whats the reason for that as I am planning to drop my wife and kids to chicago and for that I am planning to buy reward ticket for all of us from boi to chicago through American Airlines as i have sufficient mile balance with them. Please let me know If thats not a good idea.

Thanks your for your response. Does AirIndia have direct service from Newark to Ahmedabad where you dont have to go thru hassel at Bombay airport or is it better to go with Qatar/Emirates as you can avoid Bombay in that case ?

Thanks for your prompt response, Will AirIndia be way to go or other airlines would be better from NY to Ahmdedabad. We would like to avoid Bombay if it is possible or if AirIndia has direct flight from NY to Ahmedabad. Also if I buy ticket on credit card will it be okay for my son to travel on it as many times Airlines have restrictions like you should be travelling on ticket if you bought with your credit card.
Can you Please suggest what airline I should prefer over other as its matter of convenience for my wife with 2 kids? And Where I can find good agents contact list? I have very bad experience with agents 4 years ago, since then I was always buying directly through website, but with AirIndia Im skeptical going directly, Also Ticket seems preety expensive too.

I am looking to book tickets for end of June SEA-DEL which is peak season. The best price I see is $1225 on Air France. Other airlines are keeping the prices at $1600+ Are they expected to go down or I should just grab what I am getting now?

If it is round trip grab it. June is high season and 1225 is a great price.
