I missed the discussion back in the day when this topic was hot and I can't really seem to find anything in the search. Basically I signed up for the Visa card ages ago, got the 30,000 mile bonus, changed the card to a different Chase product after a year to avoid the annual fee. Now I'm wondering if I can sign up for another card and still get the bonus miles this time around. I remember reading about some people having success with this but since they have my mileage plus number it also seems like it shouldn't work. Any ideas?

Call Chase and ask.

I mean Chase says I'm fine but it's up to United to credit the account. Last thing I would want is to sign up and not get it so I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience.

From the United Website... This one-time bonus offer is valid only for first-time United Mileage Plus Visa cardmembers with new accounts.

Lots of hits answering the question using a simple Google search.

sign up for the frequent flier cards at the other airlines and then bonus offers will be regularly arriving at your mailbox.

Thank you. Everyone knows United says that. Actually, this is the only reason to ask this question.

The thing is they usually DO give you the bonus again if you had 6 month break between cards, but you can't be sure.
I know, that most of the people have success with American Airline cards from Citi, if they reapply after 6 month. I don't know if it works for Chase United, it would be nice to hear about people experiences with it.

My experience:
There are a couple bonuses when taking out these UA cards:

-You will earn the 1,000 mile free upgrade certificate and $25 paper coupon, regardless if you qualify for the extra bonus miles. The certs come from UA.
-The bonus miles (30,000 or whatever your offer may be) are issued by Chase. They decide. My experience is if you have a different type of Chase/UA card (there are a few of them out there), then you can earn the bonus miles on each card. This may have changed over time.

I can tell you they will not give you the bonus on the same card. I've received letters from Chase stating they will not honor bonus miles again.

Chase stopped giving out multiple bonuses for their UA cards a couple of years ago. Waiting six months no longer works. the only way to double dip is to get a business card, if you qualify, in addition to a personal card. To my knowledge, Citi/AA are the only ones still giving out multiple bonuses by canceling the card and waiting a few months to reapply.

Thanks all.

Whoopsers. Already signed up again. Oh well, more credit can't hurt.

Called Chase and asked. Said it should be fine. Called United and asked. Said it should be fine. So we'll see.

I believe you can have up to 3 shots for the bonus miles: one for the normal UA MP card, one for gold UA MP card, and one for business card. Applying for the same card won't got you bonus miles twice.
Well, let us know your story.
pp. Applying for too many card might not do good to you credit. Check the finance forum for guru's opinions.

And with Citi AA cards you can (could?) sometimes get 30,000 miles for each of 3 cards (AMEX, MC and Business) and then repeat it after 6 months for each of them. This way you can make 270,000 for 2 years Even with regular 25,000 bonus it's 225,000 miles. You need to spend $750 on each card to get the bonus, though.

Please provide the details. After getting repeated bonuses in the past, I did not get it when I received my last card in September 2007. My experience mirrors what others have posted in the Finance forums.

Make sure that you apply for the next card at least 2-3 months after you close out the first one. That gives all the credit reports sufficient time to update themselves. Otherwise it may just appear that you are an existing Chase Mileage Plus card holder.

As far as the details, What do you want me to provide? Exact dates when I applied and received the bonuses? The sign up bonus department can't keep track of all the people who have ever applied for the card.

The card system can pull data from the rewards system, but usually the rewards system is not allowed to pull data from the main cardholder database.

Not exact dates - but when was the last time you were able to get a bonus and how long was that after you had closed your previous account? I had waited over three months in 2007 before reapplying and did not get the bonus.

The last time I got the bonus was Sep 2008. There was an annual fee of $60 that they weren't waiving any more for the first year.

I had cancelled my earlier card around mid May of last year. I didn't have to make any calls and the whole process of getting the bonus miles was automated.

Sometimes when u apply for a new card, make sure that when the card arrives its linked to the correct mileage plus number on the card..a lot of times they just issue a new card linked with a new mileage plus number despite you providing the number on the application.

Actually, issued new mileage plus number was work better for me. I called UAL later time to combine two accounts.

Keep in mind that for every credit card you sign up for, your credit rating goes down. Our Hartford insurance rep told us that our insurance rate is partially based on our credit score and that too many credit cards is a common factor in increased rates. Evidently the more cards you have the greater the risk that your accounts will be compromised hence the lower credit rating.
