When we talk about price, MGM is half of these top notch resorts(Venetian/Palazzo or Wynn | Encore). Should we pay extra for these resorts? Do you think MGM Grand can provide services and experience close to these five star resorts? I am always told that Wynn/Encore have great rooms, but not a great resort to hang around because of their expensive items or services inside. It is not good if we can get perfect room and not satisfy with their resort. On the other hand, Venetian/Palazzo can provide great rooms and also great expenerience in their resort.

Does anyone have any great promo codes, for the Wynn or Encore? It seems like we've picked an expensive weekend to go to Vegas. We'd really like to stay there but do not want to pay over $200/night.
Answers in CAPS below embedded in the original post. No, I'm not trying to shout!

NO. ALSO, NOTE THAT THE ONLY TRULY RECOGNIZED 5 STAR PROPERTY (MOBIL) IN LAS VEGAS IS THE TOWER SUITES AT Wynn.

THE REASON THE SERVICES/SHOPPING/FOOD AT Wynn ARE MORE EXPENSIVE IS BECAUSE OVERALL THEY'RE HIGHER QUALITY. ALSO, BEING AN OVERALL HIGHER-END PROPERTY (CONSTRUCTION, LAYOUT, AMENITIES, ETC) IT'S NORMAL FOR EVERYTHING TO COST A BIT MORE; THE Wynn COST $2.4BILLION TO BUILD, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO RECOUP THAT BY HAVING $1 BEER SPECIALS AT THE POOL...
On the other hand, Venetian/Palazzo can provide great rooms and also great expenerience in their resort.
TRUE.
I agree that you should try to match up with a hotel that you'll overall be comfortable with; no point in landing a room deal at Wynn if you are unable/unwilling to enjoy the rest of the hotel (shops, dining, shows) and will have to venture elsewhere for everything you want to do.

I've stayed in about a dozen LV hotels and lost money in another dozen. For what one person's thoughts are worth my own take is as follows...
The bottom places are dirty, over used and not even fun to visit. The food ranges from terrible to disgusting.
The "blue collar" local casinos are fun for cheap, the food is generous with little style, but the rooms aren't much at all.
Next come a bunch of places, some newer, some older and all tired. I haven't been but to walk thru or see a show and probably won't ever stay at one of these.
The middle to middle upper places are really fun. I'm thinking MGM, Mirage, Caesars and Mandalay Bay. Gambling is fun. Food is pretty good, but not wasteful or pretentious with a couple of outrageous exceptions anyone with half a brain would avoid. A great pool with beautiful women is a "must" for me and these have great pools and a with it crowd! I really like the up scale rooms in these places and the other rooms not so much.
IMHO the top places are extraordinarily ornate places for folks who need to spend a fabulous amount of money to prove their self-worth to themselves and strangers without going to Europe. The food is very good and very expensive. People in general are cold and stuffy. Many women are so skinny you wish they would wear robes at the pool, otherwise their clothes are fabulous. Gambling is endured as work...all VERY serious. The piped music is classical and 40s-50s hits. No one seems to be having a really good time. I'm uncomfortable in that kind of situation. (Well, to be fair we did see a couple of real drunks weaving on home drinks in hand, who appeared to be very happy, and very out of place.) And, that major intersection at Sands and Las Vegas Blvd always stinks of sewer gas. We did like our rooms and their great panoramic views. The maids were a riot!! There was this one Russian gal....
We haven't been out to the big spreads (Red Rock, Green Vallety Ranch, etc).
Downtown I like the Golden Nugget for brunch and gambling, but the hotel guests are even older than we are.

The "big spreads" are well off the strip,...Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch,etc... not the top hotels on the strip. As stated, we haven't been out to these hotels. Sorry if I wasn't exact enough. Hopefully the edit I just made clears that up. Yes, I have stayed in the the top hotels I give strong opinions on....some of the more modest places I've only walked thru and lost some money and I've eaten in a few of these lesser places.
