Pleasant Holidays is currently having a sale on airfare + flight packages to Hawaii from LAX or SFO: link
I did some queries and the best prices can be found mid-December starting on 12/7 and also in January from 1/11-1/25/10 traveling on Monday-Fri. Some sample rates from LAX which includes airfare for 2 plus a basic rental car:
These seem like good deals especially for the high-season. I haven't seen airfare alone for less than this, at least not for LAX. Looks like you'll need to call them for Kauai and the Big Island.

This is a great find.
I have used the link to booked a 2 people 6 day package which include air + car for $710 from SFO to HNL during thanksgiving of 2009.
The airfares alone cost more than $1200 else where.
