Already booked reward miles from 11/4-11/10 flying out of SMF to OGG

2 Adult, 1 Infant (7mo)
6 Nights
Budget for hotel is about $1100 or about $160/night
Activity: Easy access (walking distance) to nice beach, hiking, food (cant do much with baby anyway)

So far I found on Hotwire 4* for $155 Ka'anapali Hotel, or $159 Wailea - Makena Hotel.

Never booked on Hotwire for Hawaii before, nor Priceline bidding.

Greatly appreciate your help.

Rent a condo on VRBO
.com in the Kihei area. I have rented a nice one bedroom, within 2 blocks of a nice beach for $100 per night; there should be several to choose from. Find one where you can deal directly with the owner, and call to negotiate; it should be possible to drop cleaning fees, etc - although not if they know about the baby.

Personally, I would leave the rug rat home with a relative or babysitter and make it a REAL vacation.

Leaving my baby home is not an option . But VRBO
looks interesting, any particular unit you can recommend??

Or look on VRBO
in the Kapalua area - much nicer than Kihei. The Golf Villas are very nice. You can find a 1 br condo for $125/night or less. You'll need a car though to get around.

The OP asked for easy access, WALKING DISTANCE to nice beach, hiking, food - not how I would describe Kapalua.

if you go directly to the Kapalua website --- they are offering deals

because OP mentioned hiking maybe Kapalua would be his speed

never stayed there, but I was there to see Tiger Woods and Ernie Els --- awesome place

I concur on the Condo idea in Kihei. I have stayed at the Maui Sunset and a couple of others in that area. Condo's are great for longer stays in that most have Washer/dryer (can pack less) plus you have some breathing room that a hotel room just doesn't give - and often they are cheaper. Many of the condos are not of the "hilton" class but perhaps more of Best Western / Comfort Inn class. I think I paid $100-120 for 2BR/2BA most of the time (several business trips) so you should be goodKihei is a bit slower paced that Lahaina with very nice beaches near-by, easy access (driving) to shops, good restaurants. Lahaini is different as it is more touristy, a bit more activity, high class hotels just past the downtown area (with a couple of decent within walking distance), shops and hotels. I stick with Kihei in that is is more central if you plan on doing some driving / sight-seeing. Though will be difficult with a 7MO... you have to plan some snorkling!
Have a nice trip!

You can walk to Kapalua Beach in less than 10 minutes or even better they have free resort shuttles to the beach so you don't even have to walk. To each his own. I've only been to Maui 20 times: 19 times to Kaanapali/Kapalua and once to Kihei.

Well said.

Not that it is a contest, but we have been to Maui 6 times (prefer the Big Island - 10 visits and counting), staying in Kapalua 1x, Kaanapali 2x, Wailea 2x and Kihei 1x. If I had to drag a 7 month old around Maui for a week, Keihi would be the place.

Napili Surf has a garden view condo for $99 a night as an "Auntie Lani's Daily Deal". They don't accept plastic, but it's a great location a few minutes north of Lahaina and right next to Kapalua Resort.

Priceline resort Nov 2-6 maui $115. a night name your own price will have a resort fee of $15 a night.Hyatt ...what a deal!

Hi Guys,

thanks for all the advice. I end up booking from VRBO
site $89/night, 1br condo at Maui Kaanapali Villas next to Kaanapali Beach. Also booked a car for the entire trip so i can drive around.

Now for hiking, any recommendation on where to hike to? I am intererested in nice waterfalls and not too much of a climb, less than 4 mi round trip hike

thanks.

I suggest that you get hold of Andrew Dougherty's book, MAUI REVEALED. It's available on Amazon and well worth the 15 or 20$ Every question that you will have is answered. It may also be avaiolable at your local library.

Iao Valley isn't bad for a very short hike

Take the road to Hana - all kinds of waterfalls and short hikes that are easy access from the main road.

Hana is nice, but remember it would make for a ten hour day

here is a summary of Kapalua area hikes I found through google
