I will be landing at Newark airport in the morning, attend a meeting in Newport, Jersey city and fly back in the evening. Am I supposed to rent a car or can I use the public transportation to move around? I'll prefer not driving. Also I'll be landing early morning so need a hotel close by. Any advice would be great.

The Hyatt Jersey City is great..there is also a mariott in Newport, if memory serves me correctly,PATH goes to from Newark..though it may be a NJ transit check both websites. imo car rental is not necessary

PATH has stops in both Newark (Penn Station) and Jersey City (Pavonia Newport). It will require 1 transfer.

You will have to take the "Perth Amboy 62" bus from Newark Airport to the Newark Penn station. From there you can take the PATH train towards World Trade Center. Get down at "Journal Square" station and get on the "33rd st" train towards Manhattan.
The 2nd stop is the Pavonia Station/Newport.

Can take Airtrain from EWR instead of a bus.
