I already had a Delta frequent flier account and a Northwest frequent flier account. When they merged, however, my Northwest status was higher than my Delta status, so they raised my Delta status to "platinum medallion" and sent me a new card.

Because my number stays the same and I don't fly much these days, I nearly just popped the whole envelope into my Delta files, to be opened when I next need it.

But I decided to open it just to check that the number on the card was the same as my original Delta account, and I noticed that there is a slip of paper in the mailing that says, "Free gift from Tiffany to thank you for your loyalty" or something like that.

You can log onto the Delta website and choose from 3 vases from Tiffany, to be mailed to you for free. Free gift offer expires Dec 31, 2009.

No idea how valuable or not the vase is, and no idea if this is only for 'platinum medallion' folks or all levels of the medallion program, but I thought I'd point out the existence of this offer, in case it applies to some here, who might otherwise pull their new card out of the envelope and toss the extraneous slips of paper into the trash, thinking they are just ads.
