Dude,

This "where should I go, what should I do" type of question gets better responses in the forums over at www.tripadvisor.com.

Sorry I can't help directly, but you should definitely check over there.

have you checked out any guidebooks in your local library? Frommers, Fodors, Rough Guide and Lonely Planet all have very detailed books on Japan and Tokyo. They even have sample itineraries.

I would stay at Shinagawa. The reason is 1)If you are flying to NRT airport, they have limosine service (bus) or train that's direct. 2) There's outback steak house 3) TGI Fridays too 4) There's Sony office, so you will see few Americans or at least English speakers there.

A compelling reason to visit Japan!!??

I checked out some Guidebooks and Tripadvisor. Damn Japan is huge. Thanks for the replys... Just letting my friends decide where to go now. We probably will landed on NRT(Norita Airport) and go to Tokyo first...

also McDonalds in Japan is not the same as in the U.S. they serve rice.

I was just in Tokyo for a week. The NRT bus goes to a lot of places and is very convenient. Almost the same price as the train etc and goes door to door. Even if you don't go to a hotel directly on its route it may go nearby. I ate at McD several time in Japan. They may serve rice but they are pretty much the same otherwise. I went to Mt Fiji for a day; waste of time and money. Almost always covered in fog and you can't see anything. Bullet train was cool though, but you can take that elsewhere too. I liked Kamakura (1 hour train ride South) for seeing a little bit of old Japan w/o having to go far. Their subway system is slightly confusing but excellent and frequent once you figure it out. I didn't know any Japanese and that only was an issue once when I went to a resort a little bit out of the way and they didn't speak English there.

Any specific questions feel free to post

Anyone have good websites to check out airfares for Japan? Was thinking about snowboarding in Nagano

(click on the colored tabs)

They do however, serve hot dogs for breakfast!

McDonalds in Hawaii also serve rice with breakfast.

and "portuguese sausage."

No spam?

The Frommers forums actually love conversations like this and have probably already had 40 of them.

That said check out the Eyewitness travel guide.

OP, check out Japan-guide. They have good info on most touristy places in Japan and their forums are way better than Frommers or TripAdvisor.
