This may seem like a very silly question but I need some help with airline miles. I am currently not signed up for anything because I only fly about twice a year and these flights are booked through work in which I am always ending up traveling on different airlines. Is there any type of program that I could take advantage of flying different airlines but still collect miles?

Sign up for all the air mile programs on airlines that you are flying. Keep the miles alive by shopping the airline's online mall. They have major stores like Best Buy, Staples, etc.
Sign up for the AMEX program that gives you points too.
Once on the air miles programs, you receive credit card offers that give you a big award of air miles for joining. Through a combination of methods, you may earn a free trip.
Last I knew, the only two airlines that would let you actually combine miles were American and British Airways. Some airlines are partners though. In that case, you can have your miles credited to the partner you use most often.
Sign up for one program, then ensure all your flying happens through it and its partner airlines. That way, you can actually collect usable miles. As atlanticfisherman suggested, see if you can also channel all your spending through the same program's affiliate credit card.
I love American Airlines and have one of their credit cards, AA Advantage, that I use for everything I buy, not only to get the miles but also so that I can categorize what I am buying and where, for budgeting and taxes. I see complaints about all airlines here and there, but I have never had a bad experience with AA.

I have 6000 miles in BA. How do I combine with my Aadvantage?
