Dates of Travel: Sun, Dec 27, 2009 - Jan 1, 2010 Departure city: New York - JFK Destination: Las Vegas - LAS # of people: 2 (I and my girlfriend) # of nights: 5 Travel and Accomodation: Already arranged. Flight - Delta, Hotel: Trump International. Budget (for a Show and NYE): $250 per person. Activities: * Watch 1 Recommended show (thinking Jubilee or Zumanity) * New Years Eve - Open Bar + Assigned Seating + Strip Firework View + Dance Floor.
As you can see with the itinerary above, we are traveling on a peak time of travel where everything would be overpriced. We are visiting Vegas for the first time and are looking for deals for one show to watch and then activities for New Years Eve.
I read all the vegas threads, that people get coupon books in cab or can do the $20 tip trick and maybe the hotel will arrange some complementary tickets for you.
Due to the timing of our visit, I feel it is not advisable to get there to arrange the show tickets. Experienced/regular visitors, please guide me on this. Moreover, the only show we are really interested to watch is "Jubilee" (Zumanity is great, but already watched two Cirque-du-Soleil shows in NYC this year). I searched Broadwaybox, Ticketmaster , telecharge and other tickewebsites that came up on google search for discount coupons to Jubilee, couldn't find any just for the show. There are some combo deals but that are not useful to me because accomodation is already arranged.
If someone could extend me a coupon from a previous visit, that would be valid between Dec 27 - Dec 31 2009, I'll appreciate your help. Also, if you could let me know of getting a premium ticket cheaper than $75 as opposed to regular $92.50.
The second and more important request is to help me find a place to celebrate NYE 2010. I am looking joonbug, newyearseve.com, newyears.com, govegas.about.com, cheapovegas.com and google search for a enjoyable new year eve activity that would have "Open Bar + Assigned Seating + Strip Firework View + Dance Floor" and cost around $150 per person. Only thing I saw cheap was Coyote Ugly promotion and didn't like it. I was looking at Rain, Moon, Jet, my budget won't even cover the cost of general admission there, I can forget seating.
Last year I celebrated New Year on a river cruise around Manhattan, it was fun and I paid $150 for it, so I hope that with proper knowledge and inputs, I should be able to get something hip for the same price in Vegas too.

New Year's Eve in Vegas is one of the most expensive times to go and occupancy rates are usually high. That means that the $20 is unlikely to work.
"Open Bar + Assigned Seating + Strip Firework View + Dance Floor" and cost around $150 per person I'm afraid this just isn't going to happen.
In fact the only place to see the fireworks (assuming that there will be any, times are tough you know) is on the outside on Strip itself which will be rammed with people. I suppose you could try and find a good bar with an outside deck/patio (there are a few) and park yourselves but these are likely to be grabbed very early on and may not be situated with a good view of any fireworks.
As far as shows, their are usually deals around here for half off tickets. I went to Vegas in March and i bought 2 Zummanity tickets front and center for 75 a peice using a deal on FW. A lot of people order the tickets the day of the show that you want to see and can get them at a substantial reduction in price. Of course this is YMMV but worth a shot. Zummanity is sweet too, definetly a fun show for couples.
As far as New Years in Vegas, good luck to sticking to a bugdget.

yeah, i was there last NYE and paid 150 for myself just to get into Jet (female). For that price, you can probably find a cool club to get into that has an early open bar, usually like 9-11 for NYE, and it'll be well drinks or one particular type of liquor, i.e. vodka. good luck getting there between 9-11, i certainly didn't with having to make it from dinner to the hotel to get ready, and then through the crowds to the club. obviously if you do this you'd get your dance floor, but there is no mega club in vegas that i've been to that's gonna provide you seating at that price. if your girl wears uncomfortable shoes, you'll be lucky to find a ledge to perch on or a wall to lean on in any of those places. if you want to go out, i recommend Jet on Monday, Pure on Tuesday - you'll still get that crowded new years club effect without the 150 tag. as mentioned, its a madhouse on the streets, people are jam packed and even though they close it to traffic and allow people to walk in the road, its still very contained as there are lots of barricades and it can be difficult and annoying to navigate the crowds. there were fireworks and last year several stuntmen doing stunts on the strip, so that may have made the crowds a little more heavy too. keep in mind if you're not a hotel guest, some hotels block entrance to the public after a certain time, or restrict access to those who have club or show tickets, etc. For instance, Jet is in the Mirage, and I didn't stay there for NYE and my ticket for the club was at will call. So I had to wait outside the door for about 20 minutes before security let a small group of people in - only hotel guests with room keys got immediate admission. kind of annoying when you're in your new years finery, but if i had my ticket in advance I could probably have avoided that. so it probably is a good idea for you to get your ticket to wherever you go ahead of time. finally, you may want to look into the hawaiian tropic zone at planet hollywood/miracle mile or diablo's at monte carlo, they had good deals for NYE including open bar and light food if i recall, plus they're both situated so that you may get fireworks views from their respective patios or from the street outside.

Check Mandalay Bay - they were offering low room rates for NYE - Wed 10/28 - don't know if it is still on.
Does anyone think Mandalay bay NewYear Package is worth it?
- Tickets to neXt New Year's Eve party* (Dec 31st, 2009) - A Four-Course Feast - An Open Bar With Complimentary Wine And Champagne - Live Entertainment By The Spazmatics And Mark And The Martinis - $25 Resort Credit
Currently, Excalibur costs around $670[no perks] for me compared to Mandalay bay $1103[which includes NYE tickets], staying from Dec 29th to Jan 3rd.

Thanks for the insight Foxxy, since I am there 5 nights, i'll probably visit one of those 2 clubs on a non-NYE night to avoid hefty price.
Meanwhile I have been looking, Stratosphere has this Level 108 party for $200 pp (First come first serve seating) and Level 104 ($250 pp for 2, guaranteed seating), I am thinking doing that but it's a bit far from the main action...so not very sure about the deal/venue, but i'm contemplating it.
Are there any other hotel parties around this range? (I already have hotel booking so looking for just NYE part and not the promo deals)
Possibly Hawaiin Tropic bar/restaurant. They have deals at 80% off (promo code ZOO), so for a few $$ now & $50 then, you'll get $100 worth of food (normally not drinks). Not sure if it's good that night but worth a try anytime you're in Vegas. LV hilton has some great deals but are off the strip.

I would not recommend the Stratosphere, and especially not at that price. Honestly, it's a big rip off to go to a club in Vegas on NYE. My husband and I have been several times for NYE, and we go to the clubs before or after NYE. For NYE in Vegas we start drinking in the room (Patron usually) and then head down to the casino floor for some gambling action, maybe a lounge in the hotel, then out to the strip 10 minutes before the countdown to people watch and see the fireworks. Afterwards, we might go gamble some more, drink the comp drinks (which are top shelf at the high end casinos), and grab a late night bite. For the other nights, you should definitely check out XS at Encore. It's totally bitchin!

Just to update this thread, now that I already spent my vacations in Vegas. Thanks for all the inputs. I did go ahead and book the Level 108 package for 200 per person (reference here: link still alive, but maybe taken off anytime)
The party was on 108th floor, so view of the strip and fireworks was amazing. While it didn't have guaranteed seating we arrived early and found comfortable couches to sit right in the strip view. Was worth it, deals were there for other places too, only thing i found missing was good fireworks view. Stratosphere fit perfectly in that respect. Open bar was for four hours, that was a plus too.
