I am traveling to Hong Kong, November 19-28. Staying at YMCA Salisbury. Need info to help with making it an exciting experience. Any good suggestions would be helpful. Hoping to go to Macau to the Grand Prix. What is best way to travel to Macau?
The high speed ferry departs from the Hong Kong Ferry terminal just about every hour. It's not far from your hotel. You will need a visa to enter Macau.
A few things to do: * Watch the free outdoor laser/light show. Every evening at 8pm. The best viewing is from the Avenue of Stars near your hotel. * Ride the Peak tram to the top of Victoria peak. * Dimsum lunch on the Jumbo floating restaurant near Wan Chai. Food is so-so, location is great. * Experience one of the Kowloon street markets. * For a great view of Hong Kong, have dinner in the rotating restaurant on the top floor of Hopewell Center (Hong Kong).
BTW, buy an Octopus card as soon as you arrive in Hong Kong. You can purchase them at the MTR kiosk in the airport as you exit the customs checkpoint.

Get a hold of the train (MTR) map that is all you need to get around Hong Kong. Staying at the YMCA in Tsim Sha Tsui is extremely convenient as it is one of the city hubs and I know that there is a train station entrance just a block away. As long as you can navigate yourself to a MTR station in any city you will have not trouble finding your way home.
Food: Do not be afraid to try the street food. In fact you should try everything you can, but as a precaution bring some Tums or Pepto I took my bf there for the fist time a month ago and he could not stop craving the fishballs sold on the sides of streets.
Shopping in Mong Kok... the "Ladies Street" is a big tourist spot, make sure you haggle and walk away if you don't like the price, most likely they will call out "hellooooo cheaper" when you walk away. Try to venture into the shopping malls around there if possible.
There is a large shopping center a little on the pricey side that is surrounded by designer shops like Dior, LV, Prada just about 4 blocks to the right of the YMCA... the shopping center is called Harbor City.
Once again do not be afraid to venture anywhere that is on the MTR line... main spots are Tsim Sha Tsui (city in which you are staying), Mong Kok/Prince Edward, Shum shui po (street shopping of laser pointers, a computer center, electrical goods etc), Causeway Bay<--- look for times square, Admiralty/ Central, Tung Chung (an outlet shopping center).
