I wonder if anyone had experience, or heard, of front desk tipping for around 9 nights? I will travel to Vegas early december and stay at MGM, Planet Hollywood, Mirage or Bellagio. I was thinking I could try with a $50 instead of $20. I would prefer to stay at one place for the whole time but if the front desk tipping doesn't work for 9 nights I might stay at two places instead.

Depending upon the location, either a $10 or $20 tip is usually helpful at improving room location, but it is also helpful if you have some sort of status with the hotel, such as SPG Gold. I would put in a request for the room first, and then provide the tip after you are satisfied with the room.

I was thinking more about the "sandwich"-tip when you check in. Put a bill between the id and cc to get a "complimentary upgrade". Unfortunately I dont have any SPG Gold or similar.
