The above site offers a useful chart to begin comparing the various credit card coverages. As alway, double check by calling your credit card issuer to be sure that you are covered when renting a car.

Below is a site that explains the American Express Premium Car insurance. I felt this was such a good deal that I applied for an American Express card and once I received the card, I applied for the premium car rental insurance.

Good site for comparison shopping. Thanks

The website is not completely accurate: world mastercards cover the countries on the exclusion list. I recently went to Jamaica and made a point of using my world mastercard to rent a car. This proved wise as I was involved in a collision. World mastercard was very helpful.

Is this Groundhog day?
Previously covered in this thread by same OP.

You got me, skibum43, LOL.

I posted these sites about a year ago but after seeing some of the recent posts, I felt they needed to be repeated. If I was wrong, I apoligize.

the AMEX one looks really nice...anyone with any experience with them??

good post really important info that needs to be updated all the time

Thanks for posting this OP! I just read the article and found out that our Visa did not cover us for numerous vacations when we rented a small pickup truck with a locking cargo bed - so will probably have to adjust to renting a car or just going with what our auto policy covers.

What could possibly be wrong with reposting valuable info?
Thanks kc.

Yes, the AMEX Premium Protection plan is worth it, IMO.

After my accident, AMEX dealt directly with the rental company. At no time did the rental company try to bill me for, or even contact me about, the 60-mile tow or the damage to the car (beyond a letter saying that I could not rent from them for 12 months). AMEX contacted me via several letters - the first one which listed the documents that I had to send in to them, subsequent letters keeping me informed as to what stage of the process we were in, and a last one stating that the $6200 in assessed damage was fully covered.

FYI, AMEX Premium Protection plan is NOT available for every state - for one, Minnesota.

Not speaking for FW specifically, but it does complicate searches (vs updating the existing thread). Doesn't really bother me if the threads are interlinked.

ohh shoot i forgot that the AMEX policy needs to be bought only by AMEX card ( right??)....my AMEX card has 10K BT for .99% APR for life...

AMEX premium protection does not cover liability and loss-of-use charges...
