It's a little too late, but for a short trip to Hawaii I would have stayed on one island for the entire duration. Two time travelers to the archipalego here; first was an island hopper (Oahu, Kauai, Big Island) over ten days... it seemed like as soon as you unpacked, it was time to pack again, clear TSA at the airport, claim bags, check into new hotel then unpack again. Too much time wasted IMHO. Second time around, spent every night in one place (Maui); did one day trip to Molokai, MUCH better time was had.
Pack as LITTLE as possible. Kona is hot in the daytime, Maui a little less so.
