With this, 80,000 miles will cost you approximately $1100 (purchase 40k, get 40k bonus). That's enough for a roundtrip ticket between North America and Europe in business class on OTHER Star Alliance airlines like Swiss or Lufthansa (NOT US Airways, whose product doesn't compare). Very good deal!

How do you use miles from one star aliance member for another's services? Example, I have United miles, but would like to use them for Lufthansa. How do I do this? Also, can I combine miles from two or more star alliance member airlines and use them for travel with another star alliance member? Is so, how?

Thanks!
You cannot combine miles from different programs. You may have difficulty redeeming United miles for an award on Lufthansa, as United often blocks awards on other Star Alliance carriers (so they do not have to pay them for the award). Doesn't hurt to try, however, by calling United.

No. The bonus is only available on transfers between mileage accounts or purchases of new miles.

If you can get somewhere on United, then UA isn't going to want to let you go on LH. However, if you're headed somewhere that UA doesn't fly, then you can probably score an LH ticket.
This promo is a great way to consolodate random accounts from family members that have substantial amounts of miles, but fewer than needed for a ticket.

I'll be more than the cost of just the original 25k miles... there's a $.01/mile sharing charge + $30 processing fee.
