* Dates of travel
I would prefer between Christmas and New Years, because it will be easier to find someone to watch our kids while they are on vacation. That being said, I'm assuming that those dates are usually more expensive, so other dates would work, if it is a really good deal.

* Departure city (and airports)/destination
We live right be CWA (central Wisconsin), but could drive to Minneapolis or Chicago if the fares are a lot cheaper.

* # of people (adults/children) (if children, you may wish to include ages)
2 adults.

* # of nights
3-5

* Approximate budget for your trip
Budget is a pretty big concern. If we could do it for $1000 that would be great. I am hoping to surprise my wife with this trip, she needs a nice relaxing vacation. Because of that, a 5 star hotel is not required...we will just want a couple of days of having no responsibilities. That being said, we don't want to stay in a total dive.

* Activities that interest you
Relaxation. Beach. Maybe a little site seeing.

* WHAT YOU HAVE FOUND SO FAR IN YOUR RESEARCH. Please include complete prices (incl all taxes and fees) and where you have located the deal.

CWA to Jupiter Beach, FL $965/pers ($890 from CHI) -- 12/27-12/31

CWA to Ft Lauderdale, FL $862/pers -- 12/27-12/31

Are these good prices for a 4 night beach vacation? Should I change my dates? Any other suggestions?

EDIT This seems to be the best one I found so far:
CWA to Fort Walton. 4 nights at hampton inn, on beach $741.

Not sure if those are good rates or not, but if you spend 5 nights, you can use the Orbitz code ORBITZOT150 which is for $150 off.

It might be cheaper to fly out to California? They have beaches too, but again I haven't really done much research into it...

Weather this fall has been unseasonably warm in most of California, with no hint of major rain yet, but not what I would consider beach conditions - perhaps someone from central Wisconsin would feel differently. I was in the Bay Area this week, where daytime temps peaked over 80!

That said, wiredspider is correct - some top name hotels here in San Diego are said to be offering killer deals (Omni, for example) - if you can find a decent airfare.

Check out Travelzoo and CheapCarribean.com for deals to Mexico, some of the Carribean (Los Cabos, Cancun, for example). If there is any flexibility in travel dates, a deal should be possible - as well as a REAL chance of real beach weather, with more predictable weather. Same goes for Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.

Phoenix and Tucson can also be a nice to get away from the cold, but like So Cal, unpredictable in the winter.

Thanks for the advice. I just booked (through Expedia) 4 nights at the hilton in Clearwater Beach, FL. With airfare (from MSP) it was only $686/person.
