Put on some bright shorts, a sun hat, and a Disney t-shirt, visit in the main square and question loudly "Is there anything fun to do in Lima?" repeatedly.

If you can find your way down to Arequipa. Incredible place. I like to joke they suffer from an eternal spring-time. Beautiful city with San Diego type weather.

I'm planning a trip to Peru for the next year and I was thinking about taking a bus from Cuzco to Puno, then to Arequipa and futher down back to the ocean to see Nazca lines. Is it a good idea to travel there by bus?

Don't see the $249 price on lan.com or CheapTickets.com. well, it was $249 for a few days on LAN when OP posted actually right now I'm seeing $270 from JFK on Taka for all of May also there're some flights for $399 from IAD in the end of May wish I could plan my vacation that far...

If you buy LAN flights within the country make certain you buy them online - and when you log in note country of residence as PERU, not USA or wherever you're from. The prices will then be at least 40% lower. Yes it will be in Spanish, if you don't speak Spanish figure it out in the English section first and then go to Spanish. It's pretty straight forward anyway. There is no requirement that you prove residence in Peru, it's just some weird glitch. I should say this was the situation about 10 months ago, it may have changed.
Peru is in my top ten. Lima not so much, but the rest of the country is amazing. Cabanaconde and the Colca Canyon, Puerto Maldonado and the jungle, the list goes on....

Personally never been, but many enjoy the healing they receive from the sacred medicine the country has to offer.
Some folks love Lima, some hate it. It is a city of crazy drivers but there is much beauty and much poverty. I found it fascinating. I spent one day with a friend walking around and then on my return to Lima was lucky enough to have a Peruvian friend in Lima at the same time and she and her family took us all over and really showed us the town for a couple of days. I would gladly visit Lima again.
Peru is gorgeous. I agree with those who recommended Arequipa. If you go there, Colca Canyon is a great day trip (or overnight, if you prefer). We of course went to Cusco and Macchu Pichu. I didn't get to see the Nazca Lines, which sound incredibly but thought I saw something similar from one of my flights in Peru.
In any event, I don't think you would be sorry you went and especially at this price.

I was playing with the airfare between Lima and Cusco and received the following message: La Tarifa Base de Cabina Económica en ruta nacional es válida sólo para residentes en el Perú. En caso de que no acredite la residencia en el Perú, LAN le podrá negar el embarque o aplicar –previo al mismo- un cargo adicional de US$ 178.50. I realize that I could have gotten the message simply because the web site figured out that I was switching the country of residence back and forth. Yet they do reserve the right to check the residency and collect the extra fee which is substantially higher than the current price difference of US$59.
Just booked my Lima-Cuzco flights - avoid LAN and their "gringo" charge for US residents and use Star Peru ($126.14 round-trip per person!) or Taca ($145 r/t per person) instead.

No problem... hope you were able to find the same fares on Star Peru as I did!
