I bought my $400+ Malaysia Airlines flight tickets to Taipei in early May. Now school is almost over, but the airfares to Taipei are way too expensive ($1000+) from IAH/SFO/LAX... Should I just wait until next May for more affordable flight tickets to Taiwan? Or is it possible for me to get cheaper flight tickets to Taiwan for this winter break? Any good travel agencies you would recommend? If anyone is flying to Taipei in December, how much did you pay for your tickets?

You can check out Eric.Asia, the site often lists promotion airfare to Asia.
Thanks a lot. Almost perfect but my school won't finish till December 8th. This $625 promo says the outbound must be no later than Nov. 30th... And returning flight by Dec. 30, 2009...
My travel plan is around 12/9-1/12...
Thanks anyway!

You are traveling during peak season if you wanted to head back for a quick winter break. A lot of the tickets are super expensive and most likely sold out. In my opinion not really worth it unless it's super important to head on back during that time.
Since you live in the west coast, if you live close to the Chinese communities, or can get a copy of local Chinese newspaper, you should be able to find travel agencies. They might still have some tickets left. But I doubt it'll be anything less than $800.
Maybe just spend that money and travel to somewhere you haven't been before?
If you want to visit in Taiwan then the best time to visit Taiwan is after Christmas, Between January and February which around Chinese Lunar New year. Between this time you can enjoy most celebrated culture in Taiwan.June and July these are very hot month .So just avoid to visit these days.Try to travel in the winter season and enjoy the culture and weather of Taiwan. travel tips blog

Yes, you can definite rent a motorcycle in Taiwan. I would suggest you to go either Taichung or Kaohsiung which are the second and third largest city in Taiwan. Taichung is about 2 hours travel from Taipei by bus. There are lots of bus companies running between the cities and cost you just around $7 one way.

Or take the high speed rail (HSR). 高雄 (Kaohsiung) is a huge city. It's also where they shot the drama Black & White.
